Can you take local and systemic hrt
« on: December 16, 2020, 01:57:47 PM »

That’s it really, can you take say 10mg of vagifem and then take systemic hrt or is it too much?

I may have to go onto local oestrogen soon due to a prolapse and I didn’t know if this would prevent using patches down the line if needed or the pill with oestrogen in?

Wasn’t sure how local the local was x

Phew  ;D  In theory there's systemic absorption during the first two weeks when you have to apply it daily until vaginal epithelium maturation is achieved ('loading dose') and then, in theory, systemic absorption is decreased to very low levels, and when I say 'in theory', I don't mean that there are no studies about this, but some women (who are not on systemic HRT) do have symptoms of oestrogen fluctuations, so it depends on each woman's sensitivity to oestrogen levels.

Hmm I have strong reactions to fluctuations (like the whole oestrogel/ Oestrodose was a killer swap for me and sent me spiralling) so I’m wondering if this would not be a good route for me.

I’m fine when my oestrogen drops in second half of cycle though so you never know. I suppose I’d just stop it if it affected me in an adverse way mentally.

Yes. I am on Evorel Conti patches and Vagifem at the moment. Adding the systemic did reduce the number of Vagifem per week but, if I reduce it too much, the local irritation returns and I am back to needing the loo during the night.

I need to Evorel conti and local estriol cream. If I don't things get awful uncomfortable.
