Other options than HRT?
« on: December 08, 2020, 01:39:07 PM »

What other options are there for HRT?. I was put onto Femoston 2/10 tablets back in September. But had to come off them due to very high BP, never had issues before. (I did post about the BP causing eye sight loss due to a bleed behind my eye)
When I spoke to my doctor a few weeks later she's adamant I can't go onto any other HRT.
Something to do with one of the hormones not agreeing with me. How can this be known after 1 incident with 1 variation?
I've read through many people's posts on various sites including this 1 that they still have HRT with high BP (mines normal again now).
Is there a type that's better for things like this? Is the patch or gel better for people who suffer BP and migraine problems?
Asking as I know my bodies struggling again without some extra help. I feel yucky and have so many peri symptoms back in motion it's hard to keep going.
I can't afford a consultation with any of the private clinics and I've already asked about a menopause clinic through the doctors.
Has anyone else had issues and then found the best HRT for them?

Transdermal would be better and imo well worth trying again. Sadly there's no way of knowing what will suit you except by trying it so maybe pick which you think will be easier.

Hi - ask for a referral to a menopause clinic.  Not a gynaecologist as they don't know a lot usually.  Let us know how you get on.

Is trandermal the gel?
I really do want to get something to help.
I asked about a menopause clinic referral but they can't do it apparently?

Of course they can. GPs can refer anywhere, some menopause Clinics are after all, run by the NHS. Each referral comes out of the Surgery budget which is why they are loath to refer anywhere these days and that's prior to March!!  If not google your area to see if there is one or look at Dr Louise Newsom's website for advice.

Transdermal is through the skin so either patch or gel. Perhaps try to find where they hold nhs meno clinics in your area. If you get stuck try posting your location and someone may be able to help. Your gp is not a specialist so it's perfectly reasonable to be referred to someone who is. I may be wrong but I don't think they can refuse? You could complain to the practice manager. IMO she should prescribe a different hrt herself.
