Ovestin regime
« on: November 30, 2020, 10:12:30 PM »

Please could someone tell me whether it is ok to use Ovestin every night, or certainly more than twice a week, long term on the vulva and just inside?

I was prescribed it 4 weeks ago. The GP said I could use it for a maximum of two more weeks every night (6 in total) and then twice weekly only. Having had VA for years I have seen some improvement in comfort while sitting and walking since starting it but I still feel that I have to be careful not to sit for more than a few minutes and when I looked the skin is still very red in one patch in particular (although this is smaller than before, so the cream is definitely helping). I don't want to go back to how desperate I was feeling a few weeks ago, so am worried about dropping to twice a week while things are still so fragile, especially as this will happen over Xmas when it will be difficult to contact the GP.

Do things continue to improve if you drop to twice a week or just stay as they are?

Also does anyone have any suggestions for moisturising the whole outer area -not Sylk/Yes type moisturisers but something for sensitive, dry skin.

Grateful again for any advice. Thanks  :)

I never managed on Ovestin just twice a week, i went to 5 times a week. I was told by my meno specialist that topical estrogen is safe to use every day.

Although it states in the leaflet about a couple of nights a week after the initial reload, it's OK to use every night if required.

Thanks for your replies :)

I was unsure as when I had a phone app with the GP and asked if after the initial weeks I could continue to use it daily, she was v quick to say "no!". However I thought I had heard or read somewhere that these things could safely be used this way...and it seems ridiculous to reduce it if it's actually helping a bit. I just have to convince her now so she will continue to issue the prescription  :sigh:u

Of course they are quick to say 'no', usually due to ignorance  >:(.  It may require more prescriptions for the product which will cost the Practice, however, it should be on an 'as necessary' basis, certainly initially.

Try every other night?

Thanks CLKD.

I have since had another flare up with awful burning one night in particular and now what looks like a split...I haven't been using moisturisers as often since starting Ovestin so maybe that's why. I have asked for the Estring now because I don't think the Ovestin will do enough on its own, but GP not able to prescribe it. They said they could refer me to gynae and they may be able to - so it could be a while. So will use Ovestin until appointment next week and see where I go from there.
