I wasn't aware the 'Debenhams' was still operational, it was in difficulties years ago.  I loved their jimjams and under wear.

I buy from Cotton Traders in the main or charity shops.  CT have jeans of the correct length  ;)

Peacocks went a few weeks ago, a family firm that originated in Wales and then franchised.  Laura Ashley clothing, gone.  The high street suffered when local authorities signed off land masses for out-of-town shopping centres.  Rates initially were cheaper so many of the large stores moved out of town.  Leaving centres without anything to attract people in.  Then the cafe culture arrived in the smaller towns which encouraged people back as well as Banks remaining.  Then rents/rates in towns went up about the same time as on-line shopping became easier.

Locally two of the out-of-town centres were built on flood plains.  Go figure.

As an aside:

Le Bon Marché (lit. "the good market", or "the good deal" in French; French pronunciation: [lə bɔ̃ maʁʃe]) is a department store in Paris. Founded in 1838 and revamped almost completely by Aristide Boucicaut in 1852, it was one of the first modern department stores. Now the property of LVMH, it sells a wide range of high-end goods, including food in an adjacent building at 38, rue de Sèvres, called La Grande Épicerie de Paris.
. there is a mention of this Store in Lucie Aubrac  by Sian Rees.

Whereas Bon Marche in the UK began in the late 1980s.
