POI and HRT at 22 - help me!
« on: November 23, 2020, 11:22:51 AM »

Hi everyone! My name is Sophie and I’m new here so I thought I would take a second to explain why I’m here...

When I was 20 I was diagnosed with leukaemia. I had to have total body irradiation in preparation for my stem cell transplant which threw me into POI. I had one last period in November 2018 and that was it. I was very ill after my treatment and I also relapsed and had to have CAR T therapy which has thankfully put me into remission for 18 months now. But over the last year I have really noticed the menopausal symptoms creeping in, particularly over the last 6 months. Excessive weight gain, hot flushes, mood swings, anxiety, dry skin, insomnia, irritability... the list goes on!

So I finally got referred to an endocrinologist and I am starting femoston 2/10 tonight... can anyone tell me what I can expect from this drug? I am really out of my depth with this stuff and don’t have many people who can relate to me apart from two friends who I went through treatment with... thank you everyone, I look forward to being part of the community.

Welcome to our World.  :foryou:

MayB put the product name into the search box on the forum to see what pops up - make notes ;-).

What support have you had throughout this ordeal?  Family, medical team, good GP?  Makes a huge difference.

Browse round.  Nothing is taboo here and most symptoms have been experienced by others  ::).  We even have a funny room too ;-).

Let us know how you get on.

Thank you! I have been having a little look on the forum exploring what everyone has been posting which is really helpful  :)

Support from medical team has been okay although the endocrinologist isn’t the most sympathetic of people which is a shame. I feel like I don’t really get taken seriously because I’m so young if that makes sense. Family have been great and so have my friends!

Will definitely keep looking and posting! Thanks :)

Hello Sophw1998 and welcome to the forum.

I am sorry that you find yourself in this situation but I'm pleased to know that you have recovered from your illness.

I wonder if it is worth checking out the Louise Newson menopause website. She runs a private clinic so a consultation is expensive unfortunately but she has had clients who were the same age as you
so she might have some useful advice.  Also she sees menopausal women all the time so she is guaranteed to be sympathetic!

I am sure other users of Femoston 2/10 will be along soon to help you with your question.

Take care and keep posting.

K.

 :welcomemm:
Welcome to place I'm sure you'd rather not be. If you don't want to privately you can ask for a referral to an NHS menopause clinic. It might be best if you got specialist advice. Once you're stable on hrt you might want to add testosterone too. There is a website for those who have had a premature menopause, I'm not sure what it is but perhaps someone else will know.

Hi Sophie
Welcome to the forum. I am on Femeston too, but the slightly lower dose of 1/10. It’s the same level of progesterone I believe, only the oestrogen is higher in 2/10. My main symptoms were mood swings and anxiety. I have just started pack 4 and feel pretty calm, much better all round. I kept a diary of my first three months which really helped. Just kept adding to a note in my phone. It took me the first 3 packs for things to settle down with very minor side effects but nothing that lasted long at all. Keep in touch with your side effects and hopefully this will suit you. I previously had another HRT with a different progesterone which didn’t suit me. It can be a bit of trial and error so don’t be too despondent if this type doesn’t suit. Xx

Thanks Nicola that’s really helpful! I’ve seen many people say to give it 3 months to settle down which is about right as I have got 3 packs before I’ll be reviewed. I’m definitely going to keep track in notes! It’s a shame there isn’t a good app for it, as I used to quite like tracking my stuff in ‘clue’ before everything happened to me but I’ll see how I go! Will definitely keep everyone updated, I’m glad you have found something that works for you xxx

sophw1998, welcome to MM and sorry you have had to join us at such a young age.

Hope your HRT regime works well for you but if not, there are plenty of alternatives for you to try.

Good luck!
