Fed up now with different pains - rectum now!
« on: November 10, 2020, 02:32:00 PM »

Hi ladies,

Had a search on the forms and its seems some people are getting bum pains - has anyone still got them or how long till it resolved. I have this awful pressure in my rectum towards my coccyx, like there is poo constantly there. I go regular so I know I'm not constipated. I've also felt up there and don't think there is piles. Its really getting me down on top of all the other menopause stuff. I can't concentrate on work or anything as ts a constant pressure/pain. I will try my GP tomorrow but I think they think Im the boy that cried wolf with all the pans I have! I have yearly MRIs for recurring tumours and the last one was Sept and was clear so I think they think Im making it up!
😩 I just want to cry all the time at the moment.

I sometimes get a sudden nip in the bum ......... fortunately it doesn't last long.

There are a lot of nerve endings in the coccyx region.  If there's been bruising ever then there may be residual feelings of fullness.  Do you sit on a ring to ease that area?

Nothing seems to ease it, but I don't have a ring - wonder if that might. Painkillers don't seem to work either - but if its nerves I don't think they do for that anyway xx

They should relieve pain regardless of how it's caused.

Have a look-C at a mobility web-site most have suitable rings on which to perch which relieves pressure on the coccyx.  Or a child's swimming ring ?

Hi kelly.louise,

I feel your pain, I’m waiting to see a specialist as I’ve got an fissures. I bleed when I poo and the pain is so bad when I poo and for 5-10 minutes after. Like pooping glass.

I also have internal and external piles for the last 12 years.
It doesn’t sound like your pain is one I would say I’ve had with all my ass problems.

Definitely contact your doctor, which I understand could be hard. I’m lucky, I’m from Australia and have been able to see my doctor all the way through coronavirus. I agree with Sheila99 it could be a rectal prolapse. And I would just like to see my butt problems have definitely gotten worse since menopause.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi,

Ive emailed my Gp this morning so we will see what they say. I couldn't sleep last night because of the pain/pressure/ache. Yeah Im not sure its hemmeroid ether as I've had them before and they never hurt this much. I have fissures after my second child - its horrible - I remember being so anxious pooing and yeah like pooing glass.
Im hoping she will send me for a face to to check for the prolapsed - which Im guessing from an internal she will be able to? Im so fed up being in pain - since my operation 2 years ao I've had daily pains - some they say is scar tissue but its like a fob of  thing to say as they can't do anything about it. Ive also spent so much money the past two years trying to get pain free - Ive just booked an ultrasound for fri just to rule out anteing from my uterus - literally all my money has gone on crap like tis the past few months , trying to just feel normal!

the GP doesn't want to seem just refer me for colonoscopy but said could be ages. Im using anusol in case its some sort of haemorrhoid (really hoping it is!). Im wondering if it could also be stress related, I always think being stressed won't affect me though pains but I underestimate my ability to cope with things since menopause

Are you taking hormones? I get quite severe pain in my bum during my period. Had it for years, assume endometriosis.

As I was trialling pills, it got quite bad on one of the higher dose estrogen ones, and not just at my period. I've also noticed it's the one thing to have calmed down whilst I'm on no hormones... Probably because my estrogen is low as I have a million other symptoms. But that pain is noticeably better.

Just a thought if you'd started new hormones or anything?

I get a cramp like sharp pain every so often just before a period. When I looked it up its called proctalgia fugax I think.
It comes on out of nowhere, nothing to set it off other than change in hormones I reckon. Only way I seem to get any relief is to do pelvic floor and anal exercises, I also find kneeling on all fours in a ball and rocking helps while doing the exercises. Sometimes lasts 10 mins sometimes lasts 30 mins.

Have you looked up LAS - levator ani syndrome? I had this same pain for almost a year. Awful ache/feeling like I needed to poo. Nothing eased it. I saw a few GP’s who weren’t very helpful. Then a new GP pressed a certain part during a rectal exam and I nearly hit the ceiling. At last. Just having a name for it helped a lot. Exercises helped and warm baths after having a bm. I’ve also suffered from proctalgia fugux. The pain wakes me from a deep sleep and I have to walk round the bedroom until it eases. That comes in phases though. It’ll happen for a couple of nights then disappear for a few months or even years. I think both of these are related to Piriformis syndrome. I saw a physio who gave me exercises and it really helped along with sitting on a tennis ball and rolling it round. I hope this helps and it eases for you soon. X

Hi
thanks for the replys, I had only changed mt estrogen patch - but same strengh so don't think its that. But yeah its weird you mention the levator ani thing as it seems to be what it describes! My GP really wasn't helpful - didn't even ask to see me which is strange as as much as I don't want a finger up my bum she could have rules out some things 😩😂. I have no pain pooing, no blood and a clear MRI beginning of September. Ive had nothing but pain the past two years Im just fed up with it always being something. the only other thing could be scar tissue pressing on some nerve but Ive no idea how they could diagnose that. I need someone to press he muscle like what happened to you then Id know? I had read stress is a factor which I do have atm.

I saw a number of GP’s who didn’t help at all. Was told I was constipated, treated for that which caused a number of other problems, piles, tears. I have IBS so it was always put down to that.   Stress definitely made it worse. If it’s the same where you live perhaps when this lockdown is over you can refer yourself to physio. It definitely helped me. Hope it gets sorted for you soon as it really gets you down x

Dear Kelrob12,
I am aware that this is a very old thread and I hope you are feeling much better now.
I unfortunately suffer from the same symptoms as you describe, so I wanted to ask you if you ever found an explanation or had a diagnosis for your symptoms with rctal pressure. I am going out of my skin and am desperate as no doctors have been able to find the cause.

Morning.  4 me any pains were around when a period was due.  Sharp, shooting pains.  Also I had an injury to the coxxcy at the age of 13 which will cause pressure and pain if constipated.  A small tear high up in the back passage can also cause spasms.
