Is this normal? Bleeding after 9 months now every 3 weeks?
« on: October 31, 2020, 04:06:44 PM »

Hi
I’ve been peri for a good 4 maybe 5  years, I’m 49, women in my family menopause before 50. I had what I thought was my last period December 2019 then had a bleed 9 months later in September another 3 weeks later and have just started spotting again today which is only 3 weeks again.

I’ve  been struggling with my emotions these past few months, I guess Covid not helping and past few weeks I have been feeling exhausted and have had headache every day. I drink enough water and eat healthy.

GP has referred me for a scan in a few weeks and I had a routine smear last week so hopefully will rule out anything untoward, but just wondered if this is normal?

Thanks so much

Hi Seven8Nine. Yes, although very frustrating, it is normal when in peri. Quite a few of us on here have got to almost a year without and then gone back to having periods again. Sometimes regular ones and sometimes frequent ones. It's down to the hormonal fluctuations. It's great your GP has referred you for a scan. I had this type of bleeding for three years before starting HRT but my doctor considered it normal so I never had a scan. Do you have any menopausal symptoms apart from the missing periods?

Let us know how you get on.

Taz x  :)

Thanks Taz, I appreciate your reply, it’s good to know it’s normal but yes incredibly frustrating! I’ve had quite a lot of symptoms including 2 frozen shoulders! I thought I was done :( lately it’s mainly headaches and insomnia but then again I think all the other symptoms I’m now used to them!  :'(
