You're so right CLKD.  That's why I'm so upset about the arthritis in my big toe, ironically caused by lots of exercise.

You maybe need some proper advice on what to take.

A neighbour of mine recommended Viridian Calcium/magnesium and zinc powder (she has osteoporosis but is not on HRT).  I like Viridian supplements and emailed them for advice. They have excellent customer service.

They recommended, for my situation, their calcium/magnesium/boron powder (and vit D) and mentioned vitamin K, but she did say not to take a vitamin K supplement without checking with my meno specialist first as there could be an interaction with my HRT.  She told me the amount of vitamin K in my multi-vitamin is fine (it's just higher doses that might be an issue).

I've decided just to eat more prunes  ;D.  I know that sounds crazy but apparently they are good for bones and contain vitamin k.

At the moment I'm consciously working out how much calcium I eat a day (both from the supplements and my diet - I don't want too much or too little), I'm making sure I take vit D, and I also take magnesium anyway as it's been helpful for a lot of things.

If you're going to take supplements I think I would try and get some proper advice from someone who knows what they're talking about. I'm not an expert.  In fact I'm in the early stages of trying to work this all out for myself.

Prunes would probably be good for me as Im prone to getting bunged up 😂.But they taste bloody awful to me! I have no idea actually my calcium intake - I have no gallbladder and milk just plays havoc with me! I do eat kale, spinach every day but no sure if they have calcium! Im going to log it all I think like you. I tweet my vitamin d levels every 3 months along with others I can afford at the time! Sometimes I just wish I was famous or loaded and it would be
easier as we could just pay to get it all sorted! 😂

So agree with you about wishing I could afford the best one to one treatment and advice, on call whenever I need it.   I've said those exact words to my partner so many times over the last few years.   Just imagine ...  a personal trainer, nutritionist, and all the specialists you need as soon as you need them.  As it is, I've spent a fortune on private appointments with Meno specialist, physio, vulval dermatologist, podiatrist, trichologist, you name it ...  :)

This is all really interested. Without seeing this post, I simultaneously posted about my osteopenia worsening since last DEXA scan in 2017 and how I've been advised to go back onto HRT.

During a call with my doctor today, she said that however great my diet was, I wouldn't get enough calcium to help. That I should take supplements.

I was thinking about seeing an osteo consultant rather than a meno consultant...

My Mum has been prescribed calcium tablets ........ also VitD is important so adding a good capsule won't do any harm.  Some supplements however can cause more problems than they solve.

Hi Noheroicsplease

So sorry to hear that.  I can't really advise as I'm new to all this.  Any information I do get I'll be happy to share,

As we were saying earlier it costs a fortune seeing all these different experts.  It'd be great to have all the correct advice"on tap" x

Great thanks. I agree its so costly, Im struggling to get to see the private meno clinic based on coat its like £90 minimum a video call and £30 to reply to an email! that why this site is so good it arms you with as much info as possible. Ive spend so much on private's bloods too - found my B9 was low yet not one of the people I saw even mentions to check it.

Morning.  1 needs to be aware when paying 4 blood tests particularly if using a private company not connected to the health service.  Often they sell products so will find something that is slightly 'off' in order to, well call me a cynic.  Moi  :D

My consultant said to avoid osteoporosis,  as well as heart disease,  alzheimers, vaginal atrophy etc, the necessary dosage is 1mg of sandrena, so whatever that converts to in your choice of HRT i guess.
