32 and feeling fobbed off
« on: October 23, 2020, 02:33:41 PM »

Hi all, new to the site so a huge hi from me to you all...

I am looking for advise really.. my symptoms started a year ago now ( Oct 2019 ) although if I’m honest a few months before I went to the Drs.

I had hot flushes and outbursts of emotions.. serious mood swings and I honestly felt like I have some kind of Personality disorder.

I went to doctors had bloods done etc and waited until November - didn’t hear anything so booked another appointment - my bloods needed redoing as fsh levels weren’t right.

Again redone and heard nothing- book an appointment waited about 3 weeks to be told that I was in menopause - put on HRT femoston 1/1 and referred to a specialist.

As you can imagine - by the time I saw anyone it was March... and I saw a doctor who then referred me to a fertility specialist but as u was STILL suffering horrific night sweats and mood swings he said I needed to loose some weight as I may not be eligible for ivf etc and upped my femoston to 2 a day instead of one and gave me a prescription of progesterone to also take. I couldn’t get the prescription filled as apparently in tablets form this is not abailiable anymore.. so I called and left messages and no reply - I am still yet to hear back.

I spoke I fertility specialist in august who gave me special blood test to be done on days 2,3,4 or period.. which I got done and she said she would call in September - no call so I chased it and booked for her to call in October.

In the mean time these emotional outbursts are awful, I u fortunately lost my dog and my world fell apart and I felt I couldn’t cope. I couldn’t sleep And all I could do was cry... constantly.

So I contacted the gp, she offering me mirtazipine - apparently a sleeping tablet was off the cards as only for emergencies! But she advised me these have a side affect of weight gain ( I’ve lost 2 stone since March- so that’s all I need )

I decided not to take them as I was going to speak to my specialist in a week so thought I could wait one more week and see if it’s something to do with hrt....

So two days ago I spoke to the fertility specialist my fsh levels are now in the normal range (surely they would be as I am on hrt?! ) but my oestridial is very high at 521 and my egg reserve is severely diminished so I explained I have been having two weekly periods ( which I explained in august also) and still suffering mood swings emotional outbursts etc and she told me I would need to discuss with dr who prescribed and that this is not something she can help with however she recommends a hysteroscopy to see if there is an underlining issue.
Today I receive a letter saying that I am post menopause and the nhs won’t fund any fertility cycles as my egg reserve is 0.1

I feel at my wits end and am so so sick of being passed from dr to dr I just want to know what’s going on and to feel better!!

Please any suggestions welcome, sorry for the life story !! Xxx

Hi! R U trying to get pregnant?

32 is young for peri-menopause so have a look-C at the Daisy website.

From where I'm sitting you are in peri, the months/years when hormone levels rise and fall.  Some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use.

Browse round.

Menopause literally means 'last monthly period' but it isn't obvious when exactly a bleeds don't stop all at once. Mine waxed and waned.  Blood tests are reliably un-reliable!

Sorry about your dog - we have a thread on 'dog breeds' here.  Been there, most of us  :-\

Many health service departments seem to be blaming C-19 for lack of support!

Hi A1mz. What a horrible time you have had with all of this so far. You will find much support and friendship on here even if we can't solve the problem.

As you probably know blood test results are very unreliable when it comes to FSH etc. and, of course, as you are on HRT then it would seem that your FSH would be showing more "normal" levels from your last blood test. What were you periods doing before you first started HRT? The only way to be deemed post menopausal is if you have had at least a year since your last period really although I understand that if your egg supply is diminished then this does point to a problem at your young age.

Do you mean you are on Femoston 1/10 not 1/1? As this is a continuous HRT then a bleed is not something that you should have on this apart from the first six months when you can have some bleeding problems. Have you been experiencing "periods" while on this? Sorry for all of the questions!!

Honestly it’s been the worst year and I don’t know if I’m coming or going if that makes sense.

Yes I do want to have a baby - I am getting older and if the time has gone that I am running out then I need to have one now rather than run out of time. I have spent all of my life devoting my time to others children as a nanny and ran a children’s home also, life can be so unfair!

I had no periods for 10 months prior to going to the doctors back last year but had changed contraception to norithisterone as the other one I was on had been discontinued... that was when all of this started.

Yes but I take femoston 1/10 but I take two... so if you know femoston - I take one week of the white pills and one week of the grey ones... however the periods started when I started this and always without fail are on the third day of the white tablets - but no one seems to listen to what I am trying to say.

I have now been having weekly bleeds lasting 3-5 days every two weeks since March..

Thankyou for your help and advice it means a lot xx

Is there a way of withdrawing the eggs to save?

Tell us about your dog?  I had a cocker, went to Rainbow Bridge in 2002.   :'(

32 is about the time to think about becoming pregnant ....... so don't leave it any longer ;-).  I'll start knitting ;-)
