Estrogel Dose Advice Please
« on: April 16, 2021, 10:04:05 AM »

Hi lovely people

I’ve been on Estrogel, Utro and Testogel for 18 months now. In this time I’ve had about 3 months where I’ve felt okay.

I felt quite balanced and then my night sweats returned with a vengeance. Dr at Meno clinic advised that this meant I needed more estrogel and to up from 2 to 3 pumps.

I did this gradually, but when I up it, I pile on weight and my heart races. Also feel quite brain—fogged. I also feel jittery and hungry - it’s like the feeling of having low blood sugar.

Does this sound like 3 pumps is too much or is it worth persevering?

Getting fed up of all this trial and error and the stock answer from my private clinic is “not enough estrogel”. I tried emailing again about this and now been told it’s probably histamine intolerance and to make an appt with their in-house nutritionist. Surely, if it was this, I would feel like it all the time, not just when I up the Estrogel.

I guess I’m also concerned that I actually do need more now and I need to press on with it. I’m now 47 and have been going through peri, noticeably, since I was 40.

Hoping anyone else who has experienced similar with juggling dose can give me hope.

Thanks so much
Xxxxx

Perhaps reduce to 2.5 and see how you are on that?

I have histamine intolerance and it may well be this. On oestrogel I felt brain fog, hot flushes, palpitations, jittery, the lot. Felt quite happy but physically terrible.

There is a way of still having oestrogen with a diet of avoiding the most high histamine foods and taking anti histamines if you wanted to.

The more oestrogen thing certainly doesn’t work for me and actually made me very ill xx

Sounds like too much estrogen.
Sweats come not necessarily from low estrogen but from a relative drop in estrogen. So if you had an endogenous estrogen spike from your own cycle popping through briefly, then it fell back to normal, that can trigger sweats. Even if your estrogen is at a fine amount. I agree that the stock answer of “you need more estrogen” is problematic. I would stick with the amount that was working when you felt well and ride it out.

Hello ladies.

Scampidoodle - Anyone curious about histamine intolerance will be interested to note that on oestrogen you had physical symptoms but not emotional problems.

Your experience provides a way of identifying a histamine problem when using HRT and if you can think of anything else that would be helpful I am sure other ladies would be pleased to hear it.

Take care.

K.

Thank you so, so much for your replies. This all makes sense.

My emotions are hugely affected (low mood and anxiety) so from what’s been said here, it does make me doubt the histamine intolerance, but I won’t rule it out completely.

I have been on 2.5 for a little while. I do try to get to the 3 pumps recommended by the doctor very gradually so I am on 2.5 for a couple of weeks or so. That’s when I notice things starting to get out of whack!

Shannonplussed - thank you. This makes soooo much sense. Why can’t the Dr’s tell me things like this? Honestly, I can’t thank you enough. I’ll go back to 2 pumps and ride out the night sweats.

Again, thank you everyone xxx

Hi Sinny

Are you taking utrogestan all the time? Progesterone can do weird things with blood sugar I find ( and always used to experience this in the second part of my menstural cycle especially when nearing peri-menopause ie late 40's.

Aso have you had a thyroid function test, and also blood sugar levels generally to rule out other problems?

Also depending on were you are in menopause then your own oestrogen levels may have dropped so you could need more. If your sweats were originally contolled by the oestrogen dose for some while and then graudally returned then this could be an explanation ie you are nearer to menopause or further post-menopause?

Also if you are taking it cyclically then the rise and fall in progesterone can also affect blood sugar, and also some women find sweats and flishes return only when on the progesterone phase of the cycle.

Just a few thoughts..and hope you manage to sort it out soon.
