Anxiety After Starting Sandrena/Mirena regime
« on: September 20, 2020, 06:56:45 AM »

Hi all, I really need advice. I had the Mirena fitted 2 weeks ago, as I had been bleeding for 3 months straight and had to have a D&C and hysteroscopy,  so I had the coil placed at the same time. I was advised it was a great choice as it is a low dose compared with other forms of prog. less chance of side effects and I had it years ago for contraception purposes, and really liked the convenience  of it, no side effects. I started my period a few days ago, I knew to expect a few months of adjustment while my body settles down with the coil, so that's ok.
My Dr also prescribed Sandena 1mg sachets 2 weeks ago. I started using half the sachet and it was fine, I felt my mood evening out and a slight reduction in the hot flashes that have suddenly come on this past month or so, but before the hysteroscopy.
So I started to up the dose to 3/4 of the sachet a few days ago and now i've started to feel anxious. Not at night when I apply the gel before bed, but the next afternoon and into the evening.  I used to have anxiety a few years until a few years ago, I was convinced it was due to the perimenopause,  but I had finally conquered it due to doing the DARE program, ive been anxiery free for a couple of years-huge relief-so it coming back again is not what I want  :(
So, last night, I just used half a sachet again but was up half the night with hot flashes and night sweats..
How do I deal with this? Is it coincidence that the anxiery has come back, I am starting a nursing degree course next week so I'm very excited but thinking a lot about that at the moment,  so maybe its this thats really causing the anxious feelings? Could the anxiety come on so long after i've applied the gel?
Could hrt be causing it though, and will the symptoms fade after a while?
I've always been scared of taking meds so for me to make the decision to take hrt was huge and I'm really hopeful that this will work for me, should I hang in there, even up my dose of Sandrena?
Would love to hear your thoughts,  thank you! :)

Awww thank you! I'm hoping it's just that my hormones are fluctuating again and things will improve, it's not so bad,  it's just I wondered if anyone else had had this experience  :)
Yes, it really can be a bit of a nightmare, no doubt! Looking forward to hearing how you get on with it all, keep in touch  :)

Today-nothing-not a bit of anxiety or hot flashes,  so either it is best for me to take the 0.5g or it's just coincidence!

Yes, hopefully-thanks! My dr told me that this dose, though very low, is enough to give all the cardio/brain/bones/ etc benefits, but I will probably just try and increase the dose very slowly if my symptoms get worse at some point  :)

Hi.
Yes, every time I've upped or lowered my hrt, my anxiety starts. Just shows how fluctuated hormones can kick start it off.
Once I've settled on a regime, it goes.
Good luck.
Oh, and good luck with the nursing degree. 👍🏼😉 xx

I have been having an awful day today with palpitations anxiety and shortness of breath all my original symptoms! I have spoken with my specialist who has said to reduce to 3 mg Sandrena as it is more concentrated and equals the 6 pumps I was on! Not sure that seems right but am going to go with it as she is the specialist 🙈
Any thoughts appreciated

Really? Yes, aren't hormones just so complex and fragile?!
I seem to be fine now, everything is fine, back to being calm, still hoping I can get some relief from the insomnia!
Awww thank you so much, I appreciate that :)

Oh no! Sorry to hear that, but now you're going to reduce it, things should settle pretty quickly. Yes, ive seen on the forum that the Sandrena is more concentrated, funny how they're so different  :)
