Returned to HRT and bleeding every other week!
« on: September 12, 2020, 11:58:51 AM »

Hi there
First post so hold on to your hats. HISTORY - had four children within two years (triplets accidental pregnancy!) then went straight in to menopause aged 41. Had Mirena fitted at the time so at first thought the lack of periods was that, but when my mood dipped my GP did bloods and declared me menopausal. I had the coil taken out because I hated the low mood I thought it brought, but perhaps that was the four toddlers and the menopause! After the Mirena was taken out I tried HRT patches and then tablets - I couldn't tolerate either. felt crazy with anxiety and low mood. Horrible. Took antidepressants for 18 months - gained 21lbs in weight - great - but felt better. Then I saw a private Dr who prescribed estrogel, testosterone gel and Noresthisterone 7 days a month. Plus testosterone gel. BINGO! felt amazing. Stayed on it for a good 10 years but had a bit of irregular spotting and a scan revealed a slight thickening of the womb. I had cheated a bit with the progesterone as it Mae me feel low, so didn't take it every month (naughty) Had Hysteroscopy - SO unpleasant - and biopsy - all fine. But Gyne doctor said to stay off the HRT as it was 'God's way of telling you you are older' ?! So I stopped cold turkey and had three months of horrible symptoms - horrendous flushes, night sweats, dryness, moody, sad, etc etc. Had sex once and it was incredibly painful and ended up with UTI. Brilliant.
Finally had a private consultation with Dr Newson The Menopause Dr who said I had been given bad advice and to try again with HRT. Started back on estrogel and testosterone cream, with Utrogestan inserted every other day. Fine at first but then heavy bleeds, low mood, painful womb and ovaries every other week for past 7 weeks. Dr suggested upping estogel. Helped a little but now suggesting Mirena.
My question is - does anyone have any experience of progestin intolerance that was made better by Mirena? I'm scared I'll get it fitted and it won't help. The low mood, exhaustion, headaches is horrible. I just seem to be extremely sensitive to progestin.
Thanks for reading this far - it's long I know - but I'm desperate for ideas!
