Hello everyone,
I am 46 years old and am in the perimenopause I think!!
I was on microgynon for 20 years as birth control but came off it June 2019 due to no libido, vaginal dryness and headaches. By the beginning of August I was in a downward spiral of anxiety which lasted 5 months during which time I hardly left the house.
Since then my periods have been all over the place. I had 3 bleeds in one month then no period for 8 weeks. The last one lasted 19 days which has left me feeling lethargic, worn out and nauseous ☹️ after a long discussion with GP she has advised me to take a progesterone only pill to try to settle periods down and hopefully help with the slight anxiety I still struggle with. Has anyone gone down this route? Did it help? I am worried that if I start taking another pill when I stop the anxiety will take over again.
Sorry for the long message but getting near the end of my tether and need some honest advice 😊

Hi Sarah,
I'm not an expert but from what I can gather, peri disturbances are caused by fluctuation of both oestrogen and progesterone. I know when my oestrogen is low I get anxiety. Why did doc suggest progesterone only and no oestrogen?

Hi Jane50
GP seemed to imply that progesterone only pill would regulate periods or stop them completely as this is the symptom I am struggling with most at the moment. In fairness I had been coping ok with it all until this last period that lasted so long and made me feel so rubbish.

Hi Sarah,anxiety is crippling isn't it? Like you,mine lasted a few months but then settled down,I was given ADs but they made me ill,so stopped them but it's finding what's right for you,it can take a while,you do sound peri so make sure you are eating healthily and take a good vitamin.There are so many women on here suffer anxiety and depression some take the HRT route,is they're anyone at your practice that specialises in meno? Most drs haven't a clue tbh and you will get conflicting advice from them,which makes it all confusing.Pop whatever is troubling you in the search box and you will find the help you need or at least experiences from other women
