TEETH ARE AGONY!! PLEASE HELP
« on: March 13, 2022, 07:23:22 PM »

Hello Ladies
Please can someone help me I am crying whilst typing I have been in agony since lunchtime with the most painful teeth and gum pain I have ever known, I am 48 still have periods not on any medication, teeth always my weak point.
I do not know what to do see a dentist or is it hormones I have looked on so many websites about teeth and menopause  I am sure there is a link. Would HRT sort the teeth problem? I floss and brush my teeth twice a day I see a dentist twice a year.
I am at my wits  :'( :-\

Hopefully someone will be able to give you a more useful reply but I would def ring the dentist and the gp tomorrow and get appointments to see both. You poor thing! If you have some Ibruprofen you can take in the meantime it might help because it’s an anti inflammatory.

Hormones.  Ring your dentist and ask advice.  Take plenty of pain relief, if you have frozen peas they can help.  Wrapped in a towel and placed on the painful areas.  Also to avoid any infection swill with boiled, cooled, salted water (yuk) every hour.

If U have bonjela then apply gently to the gums.  Sometimes they can recede leaving the jaw 'long in the tooth' = pain.  U may require a deep clean by a hygienist to stimulate gum health.  Painful teeth/gums are awful.

Hi sorry to hear this as I know how you feel I had the same thing. I would definitely see the dentist as my pain turned out to be a cracked tooth. The pain in my gums was coming from what they called referred pain. Hope you are pain free soon as I know how it can pull you down.

Flossing twice a day is not good and will cause your problem to be worse. I was in a similar situation to you, doctor or dentist? I chose dentist first and he said it was the right thing to do.  Anything to do with the mouth dentist is your first port of call and if needed you can be referred elsewhere if necessary.
Do let us know how you get on.

Definitely see a dentist, about two years back my teeth and gums was bothering me. It was March 2020 coronavirus started getting bad here in Australia. But luckily if you were having problems they would see you. The dentist said my tooth was crack and fixed it. Trouble was I was still in pain mostly on that said but occasionally on the other. I made another dentist appointment with my regular dentist. She said there’s nothing wrong. It took a couple weeks but the pain did go away.

It happens about every 5 months, I now got to my dentist every 6 months, to get them clean and checked. It hasn’t happened again since September 2021, but I still get them cleaned and check.

In the end I just but it down to menopause, and with getting my dentist to check my teeth every 6 months, I don’t worry to much about it. Funny thing is last July I had two top wisdom teeth taken out. They hurt me badly for 8 weeks after having them pulled out, the specialist dentist that pulled them out told me if I didn’t think about it, it wouldn’t be in pain >:(
Well what can I say but he a dickhead. I saw my normal dentist about six times they put me on antibiotics, but she couldn’t see anything wrong with them. Was it menopause that made the pain and recovery worse? I really don’t know, and thank god I don’t have anymore wisdom teeth left, and I never have to go through that again.

Tooth and gum pain is the worst  :'(

It can be the result of receding gums causing the nerves to be exposed, hence careful brushing and not too much flossing which can irritate the gums.
A sensitive toothpaste is essential, when you clean your teeth at night leave some of the toothpaste on your gums, it all helps to calm the nerves down.

Did U get any sleep Clare?

Flossing should be banned; messy, dirty, impossible with my crocked teeth  >:(. and all that floss going into landfill  :o

You are definitely doing the right thing, seeing both your dentist and Dr.
I too have had issues re pain in my gums and teeth and nothing could be found by 3 dentists apart from TMJ by my last dentist.
I have only very recently started my HRT and the Dr ordered some blood tests for me too.
I had the results today, low folate so I need to take some Folic acid to get back to normal.
I have been Googling and there are links to mouth issues among a million other symptoms I have.
I am not saying you should go straight out to buy Folic acid, please don't! but if your Dr is willing, then ask for blood tests to check for any deficiency.
Also closely related B12 deficiency can mimic tooth pain apparently. So again, mention that to both Dr and dentist.
A blood test could sort you out.
Either way I hope you get it sorted.

So pleased that you were able to sleep.  Get some 'sensodyne' paste and rub gently onto the gums after brushing, again; gently.

Let us know how you get on.

Some find that keeping a mood/symptom/food diary is useful to chart progress, as well as having something to discuss with your GP/Practice Nurse.

Hi

Please see the dentist to rule out an absess, awful pain with those.
I use Corsodyl toothpaste twice daily and my last check up the dentist said my teeth were so clean. I have had absesses, receiding gums and gingyvitis

Hope it helps
