Aah the little salt packet!

A stick of rhubarb from my granddad's allotment dipped in an egg cup of sugar. The good old days when we could have sugar!

Being not very well off, we rarely had cream on our pudding.

I have fond memories of sponge puddings with evaporated milk.

My mum used to bake apple pies and we'd have evap on that. Very occasionally, my mum would buy sterilised cream, which came on a tin, which I quite liked.

Hated dream topping though

Rhubarb NOOOOOOO  :sick02:  ;D. DH loves it but he never gets to eat it .......... unless the neighbour shares a bowl of pudding with him ;-)

Evaporated milk - I use it quite a lot.  Condensed, not as much.  It's the basis for Banoffee pie of course  ;) which was developed in a Pub in I think Devon .

Ooh I'd forgotten about tinned cream! You had to spend ages shaking the tin. I liked it too, and evap. Getting nostalgic now.

I have a recollection of my dad spooning condensed milk straight out of the tin. The whole lot! Don't think my mum would let him do that now... 😂

I couldn't eat the whole contents these days ;-).  I kept the last can so long that it turned to toffee inside  :o

Corned beef fritters. :)

I know most will have heard of spam ones but Mum used to make them with corned beef.

Lovely with brown sauce.

Yes! Although I think we had the cheaper version - ‘Instant Whip’ .
Loved Dream Topping too though.

As for evaporated milk, the smell was almost as bad as the taste 🤢

Instant Whip
Angel Delight
Dream topping [yuk]

I think that's the correct order

Butter scotch Instant Whip was a fav for years  ::). Now they all taste of chemicals.

There used to be a big fight in our house over who got to use the cream on the top of the milk on their cornflakes in the morning. Assuming the blue tits hadn't got to it first that is...

That's a reminder too, blue tits.  Clever little critters ......... Grandma would buy bottles of complete top off the milk, I think from Guernsey cows, Waitrose do it now ..........

Yes, think it was gold top? My grandma had it too. When we went to stay there we had a big wodge of bread with golden syrup and clotted cream on the top for breakfast. So yummy!
