private appointment for meno
« on: August 09, 2020, 03:07:32 PM »

Does anyone know roughly how much it costs now for a private appointment with meno specialist?

Hi I think they vary from about £150 upwards. I paid £170. I think an appointment at Dr Newson’s practice is £250. X

But it may well cost more if the gynae insist on blood tests and also the prescription costs may be higher privately.

I have just paid £250 at Tillow Barn Health and Well Being Clinic. That was for a 45 minute telephone call and I have been able to contact the specialist many times by email as she is adjusting my medication. This has been included in the price. I asked about booking a follow up appointment and she has said not necessary at the minute let’s carry on speaking when needed. Excellent service . She wrote to my GP requesting my medication and what blood tests she would like. For support well worth the money, in terms of how I feel we’re not there yet but hoping this will change sometime soon. Hope this helps

Total waste of time. All they will say is take a higher dose of HRT. No more helpful than a gp. I paid  250 pounds for a visual consultation at Newson health. I am having 12 hour panic attacks and nothing helps. If it wasn't for my brilliant family and friends I wouldn't be here now. If I am lucky I might get two good days in a week. Yesterday I was out and about then at the gym then out for a meal. Today back to panic all day. :'(

Robot wars, have you booked anywhere? I saw Julie Ayers at Nuffield hospital in Leeds. Not sure where you are but it was video consultation anyway. I think she has a couple of weeks waiting list. Cost £120. x

Hi

I travel to Newson Health and it has been worth every penny.

First appointment was £250 plus prescription fee of £30 then £50 for patches and gel.

Follow up was £95 plus £30 prescription fee and £113 for testosterone.

I saw Julie Ayres at Leeds first and she was awful - I got a full refund. Wouldn’t send my dog to her!

Sorry Baby yo hear about your issue I am peri and suffer from anxiety/panic from time to time, this with low mood and mild to moderate dizziness.  Sometimes I will fill chilly or hot for no apparent reason as well.  Thanks to hormones! I'm 49, will be 50 in October this year.  With the anxiety bit, at times I feel like my fight or flight mechanisme is permanently switched on and is endless.  I also wonder when this nonsense  will eventually stop.  If you don't mind me asking you, what stage are you at?  Did this panic problem start suddenly or did it come on gradually?  Does it feel like you've never gone through such a horrible phase?  As for the private clinics, they do charge a fortune and I'm not sure if they can do a better job that the NHS.  I think that they are ou there to make money out of misery.  I was thinking  of going to one for BHRT as I'm not on HRT and I don't want monthly bleeds once I've reached menopause.

No problem - hope it helps. I just put it on a 0% credit card and pay off what I can. For me it has definitely been well worth it xx

Private appointment was worthwhile for me as well but does come at a cos. The nearest place for me was London at £250 plus prescriptions. There is an element of "making money" but what can be useful is that there are some options of HRT that are not available on NHS. Dr Tina Peers was very good. All the best, AG

Hi Karine. I believe I am at meno/post. The actual panic started Feb 2019. It lasted about ten minutes on the mornings at first then just lifted. But it just got worse so much so i have had to go part time only two afternoons a week from full time. Luckily i can afford to do this. I suddenly just couldn't manage my job any more a job i have been doing for 25 years. I went to management but they talked the talk about helping me but did nothing. Some days are better than others and i hope that one day i will start to have more good days than bad. I have developed a phobia of being on my own when before I loved my own space. The biggest thing that is helping me is joining a gym,not one full of posers but women my age and older.looking back peri started for me in 2014 when I suddenly developed clostiphobia and started to nap in the day,a thing I had never done before. Went to docs had bloods done etc all came back normal of course. Never crossed my mind about meno. Never really thought about it ,hot flushes was the only thing I knew and periods stopping. I think meno should be taught about in school especially peri meno. Sorry for going on about myself so much.x

No. That's fine.  So you if you haven't had a period for 12 consecutive months or more you are postmeno.  I haven't had a period since January this year and, frankly , I hope that they won't come back.  It seems that your peri was perhaps easier. I don't know if HRT works foe anxiety but I think this anxiety business is the worst symptom. Like you, I used to think that menopause was about hot flushes and the end of periods but I was wrong.  If only it was just this it would be easier. But seriously menopause-related anxiety cannot last forever.

I hadn't had a period for 9 months when I started HRT. And dont believe my natural cycle has kicked in at any time that is why I think but am not sure if I have reached meno. I just wonder now if I had started HRT in 2014 things would be easier now. I am on my third try of HRT and think there is nothing else if this fails. I am currently waiting for an appointment with an endocrinologist over the phone.. wish it was face to face.

Can the endocrinologist tell you about your hormone levels?  I'm not quite sure what they do.  Anyway, the panic attacks  you're suffering from must be very unpleasant and I can only sympathise with you.
