Evil progesterone
« on: July 30, 2020, 07:34:52 AM »

Urgh I know this is a common thread here - but for the love of god knows what... I can’t tolerate utrogestan either way of taking it or for even a couple of days. I had a mirena fitted as a last resort on the 17th it was a horrendous experience, painful and done by an insensitive GP... the damn thing wouldn’t go in well as my uterus went into spasm... don’t I bloody know it... and last night out is fell... back to the drawing board. My VA (that I only found the name for on here) has been much worse - maybe the trauma of the fitting?? So I’m not thrilled about trying again. Where do I go from here. I am 42, peri and currently in 4 pumps of oestrogen/dose and testogel daily. Plus ovestin....

Just wanted to communicate some sympathy as I'm in a similar situation. This is my second go on utrogestan and I am trialling every other night vaginally as I cannot manage the side effects of taking it orally on a daily basis.

I made another attempt to come off hrt but VA came back within 2 days, even with vagifem and Ovestin, and Olive and Bee and Multigyn.

Don't want to take Provera as it causes bone-thinning and the whole idea of Mirena just terrifies me 😰. Also, Provera has a lovely 'burning vagina' side effect 🔥 . I was wondering if it made the burning worse, then I checked and it's  a listed side effect. So VA much better on the Utrogestan at least.

Hi

At 42 have u considered the combined pill as an option? Many different ones to try with different progesterones. Stronger estrogen though.

I've tried many of them. Still trying!

I’m beginning to wonder if there’s a different attitude to combined pill depending on where you go. I was refused point blank at a very healthy 40 saying I was too old and my only option was Mirena or mini pill. Can’t tolerate the mini pill and am scared of the same side effects with the coil. I’ve learnt lots reading on the forum about the different types of progesterone and think I’m intolerant to one group but not the other . I was absolutely fine on femoston 2/10 until my blip😳
What type of progesterone is in the gel 3isenough?

I was refused it at 38/39 because I was too close to 40 and actually I was quite crazy on several different types in my teens/20s so this whole progesterone thing is a life long challenge. POP I took instead and after 2 years realised I was flat and uninterested in everything so that’s not a goer either. To be fair the 12 days I kept the mirena in place/ish were ok, I might try and find a GUM clinic and try a lower dose coil. Long term I think a hysterectomy is the solution. Multiple prolapse as well so be nice to get it all sorted in one go really.
