Estrogen tablets?
« on: July 12, 2020, 07:40:14 PM »

So I am peri meno aged 42, I've had patches for 6 months but developed a skin reaction Until then I was really good on the patches and had started testogel too.

Started oestrodose gel 5ish days ago, and I've been steadily declining in mood and energy and my testogel seems to have stopped working? Maybe because it is being converted to oestrogen to make up the missing amount?.

I have also struggled with utrogestan tried it all ways, so trialling a mirena (I'm not keen but need to try it) this Friday is the fitting.

Is it worth just skipping now to tablets for the estrogen part, are there any pitfalls? I have no problem taking tablets daily, I am already on thyroid tablets.

I am unable to get hold of my last blood test results which were on the patches but if I had to guess I would say I was still a bit low but better than I was pre HRT! I am trying to get a copy.

Any advice gratefully accepted

Hi 3isenough. You are still very young so tablets will be fine. There may be an increased risk of cardiovascular problems (and stroke) in the over 60s and with certain medical conditions, also high BP or being overweight, smoking, excess alcohol etc. At 42 if you are otherwise healthy and attend to any lifestyle factors you need to (!) then why not give tablets a try. If you are a migraine sufferer or have stomach problems then they are not recommended.

Here is some info from this site which lists when non-tablet options are preferred:

https://www.menopausematters.co.uk/route.php

Could you not try a different brand of patch with different adhesive? Which one were you using? Estradot are very small so less skin area to become irritated but I haven't been able to get hold of these for months and use Elleste Solo patches.

Don't forget there is also the new Lenzetto estradiol spray which may suit some women better than others? There are a few threads on it.

Good luck!

Thanks Hurdity. Migraines are one of my symptoms but I think linked to the progesterone ups and downs. No other problems from that list.

I was on estradot and was fine, couldn't get any and moved to Evorel, was fine for a few weeks then as it has warmed up I started reacting. Managed to get some estradot again but I'm still coming up in hives/heat rash with them. So I think it is either heat related or my skin just took offence and is sticking with that view point. I?ll discuss tablets with the GP at the Mirena appointment. Thanks
