Prescribed vaginal utro
« on: July 09, 2020, 02:36:49 PM »

I've just picked up my Prescription and have been given Vaginal 200 utrogestan with Applicators.
I usually take 100 vaginally. I thought Utro vaginally wasn't licensed for the UK? Seems odd that's what I've been given

Hi the 200mg capsules are for fertility treatment. You are right that vaginal Utrogestan is not licensed for UK. X

Thank you I called my Dr to question it but it was a male Dr who said it's the correct one. I've a phone call with a female Dr tomorrow to see what she says.
Trying to explain to the receptionist was a nightmare 🤦🏻‍♀️

Hi Polpringle,

My understanding is the same as Dotty's - Utrogestan isn't licensed in the UK for vaginal use as part of HRT, but is prescribed by some doctors 'off book' to be used in this way. If it's used vaginally the dose is 100mg, taken as 1x100mg capsule; if it's taken orally the dose is 200mg, taken as 2x100mg capsules.

Utrogestan is licensed to be used vaginally for fertility treatment at a dose of 200mg, and is supplied with an applicator. Sounds very much like the GP has got the two mixed up.

Good luck with the other Dr.
