I have been prescribed the below by a GP today
Estradiol 0.06% gel (750microgram per actuation)

my meno clinic consultant is on long term sick leave, the GP i don't know and gave me no info regarding the gel application. The directions on the prescription request are apply once daily....??

i have been using Estradot 100 but i am reacting to the adhesive... so how much estradiol so i use and where?? I use testogel 1/10 of a sachet on my inner arms at night currently... hoping you guys will know!!

I put 4 on each morning...2 on each outer arm, but some people split the dose.

I use 3-4 pumps estrogel each morning but couldn't ever manage more than 50mcg estradot patches so in my case the equivalents don't make sense x

What symptoms do you get if it is too much? I went straight to 100 mg patches and felt amazing!! I can't tolerate the progesterone at all but the estrogen is amazing ... but I also can't access my last (only post starting HRT) bloods for various boring and unavoidable reasons... so I have no idea how much uptake I am getting with the patches.

When I was on too high a dose I would get really jittery. And anxiety was worse.  It could also be that since using the gel I have been using testosterone which has helped with social anxiety that I developed in menopause x

Well I tried two pumps yesterday one when I got the gel and one before bed when I took my patch off. I already feel better. Didn't get up once for wee in the night!!! That happened the first few days of patches... then went back to normal and up at least once. But it clicked when I woke up and had a TMI warning ?proper forceful wee? that I have had a fair bit of urgency the last few months. So maybe that was all linked to the patches not properly working as my skin was irritated. Hopefully my new patchwork of gels will work for me.

It was a short lived whoop!  I'm really struggling now. I guess the initial dose was topping up the patch and now I've been patch free for a few days I'm crashing. Today it was like I hadn't ever had HRT  I've been shit and a complete cow.

Hi Annie, I am on 4 pumps I tried 5 the other day 3in the morning and 2 at night then tried 4 the next morning... that was too much I think.. felt rough and so so so hot yesterday. Just 3 this morning, and I feel better, I’ll do one more at bed time. I guess it is just a bit of trial and error.

I’m gong to need more gel though dr only prescribed one bottle so it won’t last long !

Yes, I found that. Had to take the 50mcg Evorel patch off as I became so hyperactive my family said Lemmy would have told me to slow down  No such problem on my usual 3-4 pumps of gel.

Terrible acid reflux on the patch too.

This is a really interesting thread....thank you ladies 

I recently moved from Oestrogel to patches and now I think I’ll move back but might need a combo! I was on 4 pumps oestrogel (and recently had a Kyleena coil fitted). Anyway, within 10 days of the coil being fitted I was waking up covered in sweat and having terrible insomnia. I had some patches as I thought I’d try those in case the gel wasn’t consistent enough with the constant progesterone. One night I was so beside myself with sweating and lack of sleep that a slapped on an Evorel 25.

Well, unexpectedly this stopped the problem within minutes! I was very surprised at such a low dose. Anyway, I thought this meant I absorbed the patches better than the gels so swiftly moved from 4 pumps oestrogel to Evorel 100. OMG.....after one week I felt like my head was in a vice! The headaches were sooo painful. I tried reducing down to Evorel 75 (equivalent to 3 pumps Oestrogel) and that gave me very quick relief but only for around 5 days and then the headaches become intolerable again as well as the insomnia (had it chronic with Evorel 100 btw).

I had to reduce to Evorel 50 which gave me relief but has left me very moody and totally exhausted. I definitely absorb/process the patches and gels differently. The headaches make me feel so nauseas too! I think my problem between the 2 products might also be complicated by the fact I have an under active thyroid and I think the continual even dose of the patches was causing havoc with my thyroid meds. I think I will try going back to the gels and apply that in the morning and take my thyroid meds before I go to bed (as far away from the gel application as possible!).

I hope migrating back will work but it might be I need to keep an Evorel 25 patch on (to keep the night sweats at bay) but use 2-3 pumps of gel in the mornings. God I hope this theory works, I’ve been to hell and back for switching! I had no idea my body would react differently to patches.....

We live and learn but mostly learning for me at the moment

Sorry, just thought......OR I absorb the patches a lot LESS than the gel, that would also explain the headaches but not why the Evorel 25 stopped the night sweating within minutes......but then I was on gel at the same time and maybe it was just enough with the gel?

In short, the difference between patches and gels is probably negligible for some but for me it seems significant and highly confusing!
