Testosterone
« on: June 21, 2020, 06:58:59 PM »

Hi I've got a telephone appt with GP tomorrow. it's a locum that I've never met. I can't get on with oestrogel.. it really makes me feel odd if I have one pump, so just take half. I'm asking for a patch tomorrow for a more even distribution. The question is what patch size and how if it's a low dose will I be ok with testosterone (if I get it) 🙄. I was thinking maybe 37.5 or 50. I'm post meno with shrivelled ovaries (gynecologist words). I never bled on sequi hrt and conti didn't suit with everyday progesterone. I was going to see if she'd agree on long cycle 🤞

Well I've just spoke to locum GP... I asked for oestrogen patches and asked if I could do a long cycle, plus add a bit of testosterone. Firstly she thought I was meaning progesterone gel🤷🏽‍♀️ When I finally got through to her she said they don't prescribe testosterone gel but she will do some digging. My ferritin come back at 21ug, and she said this is fine because my MCV is on the lower end but ok. I told her my hair is falling out but didn't seem bothered. Felt it was all a waste of time 😟

GPS don't normally prescribe testosterone because there isn't a product licensed for women in th UK. You can ask for a referral to a menopause clinic where a specialist can prescribe it but usually only for low libido and you have to be stable on HRT first. You don't say what happened about patches but half a pump is a very low dose so it might be best to start on a low dose patch and increase if find you need it.

Hi ladies. I've had a lovely locum GP helping me. She admitted she knew not a lot about HRT so last Wednesday she went to a seminar and spoke to a consultant. He said she can prescribe me testosterone but only if I get tested first. I've already had a private test but didn't mention that. I'm in Manchester and there's only one hospital that will do the test for testosterone, so I've got to go for blood test on Thursday. She said she'd prescribe me a sachet that lasts 10 days I think(on proviso of test results). I really appreciated this GP going above and beyond for me. I've changed to Evorel 25 patch and utrogestan which I'm dreading as it gave me really sore boobs. I know it's about getting the balance right. I mentioned long cycle and said I can do that off my own back but consultant didn't recommend it. So I may go back to every other night for utrogestan orally as I've only tried it vaginally. I just want to get myself back on an even keel. I came off for a couple of weeks as I felt I was messing to much, but I have felt my mood sinking lower. I had my last period in 2015 so quite post meno.  I'm 52 x

Hi sheila99. I've started on evorel 25 patches which so far seem fine. I'm at the moment having Utrogestan every other night.. which I hate.  I hate progesterone in general:)... that's why I've spoke to GP about a long cycle.

Hi sammiejane. Yes my hair falls out all the time but I'm hypothyroid too so I never know what's causing it as they thyroid and meno mimic many of the same symptoms x

hi tinacross

how are you getting on now with the patch and utro alternate ?

i've noticed hrt caused my hair loss as was hrt free for 4 yrs following hysterectomy and ovary removal x just wondered if it may of made it worse as a few ladies have had hairloss with estrogel xx like you i?m taking progesterone now alternate days as to balance estrogen because i cannot tolerate estrogen alone but my body does like progesterone it's estrogen it dosent as i feel worse on estrogen only days but i was on 2.5 pumps gel and P daily and was fine on this but then was getting armpit groin sweating and flushes back bloated huge boobs and hair shedding worse so hence i've dropped it back down bloating not as bad sweating hard to say as weather been cooler so not sure if worse on E days or with E and P ( off hrt was better) but hair shedding no change but is worse with just E so i don't know wether to sack hrt off i?m exhausted with copping and changing it's ruined my life for last 18mths x
