Femoston side effects
« on: July 09, 2020, 07:12:48 PM »

Hi there! I'm a newbie and thought I'd shared my experience/ find out if anyone else has had similar issues. At just 21 I experience premature menopause and had to start taking HRT as my bone health started to decrease. I started on femoston, however, it gave me horrible side effects including depression and sever constipation, did anyone else experience this? I have now just been switched into everol Sequi patches so crossing my fingers this will work better for me!

Hi Elliesurfs

 :welcomemm:

I am so sorry to hear about your premature menopause. That must be tough. There is also the Daisy website for women in your position where you are more likely to meet others who have gone through similar. Most of us on here are much older although of course we welcome everyone and you will be assured of support when you need it!

How old are you now and how long after reaching menopause did you start HRT? My view is that at a young age you need a much higher dose of oestrogen and especially to protect your bones. The everol sequi only contains a medium dose and is often prescribed for older post-menopausal women even after the natural age of menopause. Has your specialist discussed with you the need for a high dose? IN your position I would want to find a regime that gave me levels of oestrogen at least at the average across the menstrual cycle for the average woman and from what I recall this is between 300 and 400 pmol/l. Have you ever had your oestrogen levels measured? I know these are often disregarded and unnecessary for most women going through menopause at the average age etc because they are inaccurate and only a snapshot in time, neverthelss in your case they would be instructive and could indicate how well you are absorbing it, especially as you have experienced problems with your bones. Not trying to put you off but at this point of switching HRT types now is the time to try to maximise your dose I would say?
