Lovely. They are on the red list. I love the fact they nest in holes in trees  :)

Sooooo,is it ok for me putting the feeders on that tree do you think? What I mean is,IF some nest in that tree, will I be disrupting them? They don't seem to mind me and don't fly off when I refill the feeders

Poor little birds,I'm filling the feeders twice a day at the front of house and I'm sneakily feeding a little Robin at the back window,he hasn't told any of his friends lol he was even there in the dark, merrily pecking at the seeds that I place along the top of the wall.
Was -20 last night, how on earth do these tiny birds not freeze?

Well long tailed tits form a line close together to keep warm.  I suspect that the heart rate drops in the night ?  They also fluff up feathers to keep layers of air which keeps them warm.

We've been feeding sparrows from a feeder that hangs under a permanent awning outside the front window. Lately, though, pigeons have started showing up. Any advice on pigeon-proofing a sparrow feeder? Or useful links?

At one time we had a thin metal pole type bird feeding 'station' with the feeders hanging off small hooks.  The pidgeons found it difficult to sit or cling on anywhere and had to feed off the floor.

Collard doves and starlings get onto one of the feeders here, usually the larger birds feed from underneath which was handy during the frost/snow - the ground was kept cleaner than usual.

Have spent an hour cutting back more hellebores leaves for the bin, they have black spot here.  Flower buds peeping up as well as snowdrops and polyanthus from underneath a fern - which will need moving next month as it over whelms every plant around  ::)
