No HRT
« on: July 12, 2024, 02:34:48 PM »

Hi, am totally new to the forum so Hello everyone and thank you for taking time to read my post.

IAM looking for advise and opinions,  I just recently had a full hysterectomy it's been advised that I should not be on HRT due to the type of the cancer I had (granulosa tumor cell ovrian cancer ).
I am totally fine with it, fighting all the glamorous symptoms of menopause at age 37.

Question is what vitamins, supplement yous ladies take? I still want to support my bones and heart. There so many different things I just don't know what to choose,

 :welcomemm:

So that's a full hysterectomy, with ovaries removed?

It amazes me that in this day and age Consultants don't have advice prior to surgical intervention on what is available: as well as what is required to support ladies who can't take HRT.  Has he/she advised on an exercise regime and when you ought to begin?  Did U have a dedicated Nurse to contact or physiotherapy.  So many questions, sorry  :D

What type of Consultant care were you under?  Have U been referred to an oncologist for example?  R U requiring any follow up treatments?  Do be aware that as oestrogen levels drop the body may become dry: inside and out  ::) - skin, deep in the ears, nostrils, vagina ......

Browse round. Make notes.  Ask away.

Some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use to chart symptoms.

A good exercise regime is a starting point for protection of our body overall as well as heart and bones.  Would your GP be agreeable to your having a dexa scan , usually of pelvis and hips which are our densis [sp] areas?  That would give you a base line from which to work.

I am sure that some ladies here will be along with advice.  VitD is the 1 supplement often recommended for all of us in the UK .

To be honest am posting here because I really lost faith in NHS, sad to say but it's true.
So my story started around 6 years ago I was going to my GP for 6 month giving him all the symptoms of ovarian cancer but he ignored me. Then I didn't know that what was happening, I ended up in hospital, next morning found out that I had a tumor on my right ovary that burst After they test it turn out to be a cancer. 6 monthly check ups. 2 years trying to have family then COVID hit when I decided to have full hysterectomy.
I had hysterectomy this year. Been told that I need to be on HRT till am 47 but they gave me referral to HRT clinic and then I found out I should not be taking HRT BECOUSE if the type of the cancer I had.
I've got 6 monthly check ups just now that's all. Been told usual take vitamins healthy eating and excercise but no much infor
Am on antidepressants as well as I could not cope after surgery,

It sounds like there's some ambiguity about the potential risks of HRT, whilst the risks of being on nothing at 37 aren't trivial, so in the first instance I would be inclined to seek a specialist opinion, even if you have to pay for it, given how high the stakes are.

If you decide against HRT, and I would also specifically ask about tibolone as this works slightly differently and may be considered acceptable, then there are other medications such as raloxifene for bone protection which may be appropriate, or even if you could perhaps take testosterone but no estrogen, if it is felt to be estrogen sensitive.

 :thankyou:  bombshell

I would also suggest contacting the Ovarian support Charity and DaisyChain for early menopause.

Make notes.  Let us know how you get on.  It's awful that your GP didn't follow up your concerns, however taking on a legal case against the NHS would wear you down.
