Vaginal atrophy
« on: April 19, 2020, 09:53:54 PM »

hi ladies

i need some advice

i use ovestin twice a week but have noticed for a while now that the following day after applying it the night before and the second day i have really bad bladder irritation like i?m need a wee and sometimes burning, it always when i laid in bed and legs straight out in front of me if i bend me legs i get some relief , also since adding in progesterone i've noticed i've been having a more sticky watery discharge .

could it be progesterone causing both issues as i read-on leaflet the side effects and it states urinary problems !
or do i need 3 times a week ovestin
or could the ovestin now not suiting me and need to change to vagifem .
as vagifem is estradiol and ovestin estriol does vagifem work better and stronger or are both the same in there effectiveness x

thank you
it's driving me nuts

I used Ovestin for several months and then I seemed to get more flare ups of the VA so switched to Vagifem which I prefer.

I have to use systemic HRT, Vagifem every day and Ovestin on outside bits just to keep the awful VA under control.

hi tinker bell

it's so frustrating i tell gp they refer me to menopause explain to menopause and they are rubbish they don't want to know everything my choice is all they say i think it is the ovestin because it's every time i use it i was on vagifem to start but after 5 weeks hair started shedding and thought it was that but not sure as continued shedding even after stopping it i was in a patch u see and didn't suit and stopped it before aswell but it shedding now lost so much much more and won't be able to hide it which i think is the gel

Sammijane,i think the stickiness and wetness you describe are just natural secrections
I have this too, and i think using internal HRT just makes it more noticeable, and maybe slightly more than it would normally be
Also could be slight bladder leakage as well
I am sure it's nothing to worry about, it doesn't worry me

Sammijane, why dont you ask for both vagifem and ovestin. I used vagifem inside to sort out the dryness, burning, bladder and prolapse and ovestin on the outside to control the soreness, shrinking labia and occasional flare up of lichens. I couldn't manage if i only had one or the other and both together work for me.

hi diedre

i started on vagifem but found that 5 weeks into taking it my hair started shedding although not 100 percent  sure it was that as continued to shed even after stopping it but swapped to ovestin so reluctant to change although when i came of systemic hrt estrogel i didn't have the bladder irritation on ovestin so i?m wondering whether the gel is actually suiting me as a few ladies found there vagina is sore x

Make sure that the 'ovestin' goes deep into the vagina.  Have a look at 'sylc' and 'yes' web-sites to see if that might suit, some find these help with soreness around the outer areas.  I use 'vaseline' or 'KY Jelly' to ease dryness.

hi clkd

at the moment i?m not sore just bladder irritation can progesterone cause this if taken orally ?

i think i?ll have to stop progesterone for a few days and see if it eases if not then i?ll have to look at changing estrogen i think it's weird but can feel it coming out x lol and doesn't smell like wee x

i know ovestin can be used externally which i do and in actual fact i find i've got wet patches where my lips have been in knickers to so i wonder if it's the ovestin causing watery discharge ? i also apply it internal and i rub a bit with finger inside the top of vagina on urethra meats is what i've been told it called if i put my finger in i feel it almost instantly inside who has dropped down i believe as used to sit up behind front vagina bone x coukd that be irritating my bladder

Discharge is normal.  The vagina is on the whole, self cleaning until atrophy sets in.  So moistness is good ;-)

Keep up with the treatment!
