Confused by a tiny bit of spotting
« on: March 15, 2020, 11:05:41 AM »

Hi

hopefully all I need is a wee bit of reassurance.  I'm on estradot+utrogestan and I take the utrogestan every day with no break.  Been on it for over 6 months, works well for me.

I forgot to take an utrogestan tablet last monday, so missed one day.  Have continued with the dose as normal.

This morning I did notice some bleeding, which surprised me.  Is that likely after only missing only one tablet?   I'd understand if it was three or four days of missed tablets, but one?

Hi applejack, it was the weekend, people do other things!

Yes it can happen that a drop in progesterone levels can be sufficient to cause a bit of a bleed. Personally I would not be at all alarmed by this as you have an explanation for it. However if it happens again with no particular reason then as you have passed the 6 month mark do have a word with your doc.

Incidentally if taking progesterone orally, digestive upsets can also sometimes affect absoprtion and lead to variation in levels too but sounds like it hasn't done so in your case if you haven't had any bleeding so far.

Glad to hear it's working well for you, especially the daily progesterone, as this will be reassuring to some women who are nervous of trying it. Quite a few of us on this forum have problems with the progesterone so I think we are overrepresented!

Oh, thank you, Hurdity.

When you say some women are nervous of taking daily progesterone - is that for women on sequi who don't want to move to continuous?

I know with the utrogestan prescription I have it gives me the option to only take the tablets for 25 days out of a 28 day cycle, but both my doctor and the meno specialist I saw originally said it's fine to take for 28 if you don't want a period.

Honestly, it's been the best regime I've found.  Got rid of my bloating within three days.  Took a little longer to reduce the flushes but now I get maybe one or two a month and they last less than 10 seconds.  I didn't take too well to femoston, but the utrogestan has been problem free.  With the cv crisis I fear the supply of oestrogen patches will slow down again and I'll have to stop both, so that would be my only advice against going for a patch+utrog option.  Otherwise, I'd say nothing to fear.
