Just started hrt and have strange symptoms
« on: March 21, 2020, 11:26:34 AM »

Hi I'm very new to this. I'm Peri menopausal, just started hrt over 2 weeks ago. Oestrogen gel 2 pupms a day and now started on the progesterone tablets 2 a day. I'm very bloated and this morning my knee and surroundings it is a bit painful (which I sometimes get sore knees) area is hot and viens more prominent and hot. Is this a side effect? In light of the whole coronavirus, I don't think calling my Dr on Monday to talk about it is going to be an option. Any experiences any one has about this and bloating would be so appreciated  :) thanks in advance

Tallulah

I always used to bloat on the progesterone phase so I would say yes it is a symptom of the prog x

Thanks for replying Perinowpost.
I thought the bloating was, do you not take this anymore? Did the bloating go away eventually? it was also the knee and thigh/vein swollen and hot that I'm more worried about and if this is related to taking hrt? Thank you  :)

The bloating would subside as soon as I stopped taking the prog (utrogestan) Tallulah. It also used to make me hot on a night (I took it last thing) but once again that would go away as soon as I stopped taking it.  I can't comment on the knee/thigh thing cos I never had that, but if you?re at all worried then I would ring your doctor. It may just be your body getting used to it. How are you taking  the prog is it orally or vaginally?

I found an alternative (privately) I can't talk about here though as it's not approved, you can find the thread in the alternative solutions section x

Thanks Peri, I'm taking it orally. I've heard of taking it in other ways but a bit scared to do that as I've also heard they are not meant to be taken other ways 🤷
I will look at the alternative solution thread, thank you.
I don't really want to call the GP at this time as they are already stretched. I will see how it goes. I was really hopeful that hrt would work as I've had terrible symptoms with menopause or whatever is making me feel so crap  :-\
Sally, when you say you can manage without hrt can you elaborate? Thank you  :)

Hi Tallulah

Welcome! :)

How old are you and what are your peri symptoms?

I did not get on with hrt... also started to get side effects after two weeks, which got progressively worse.. although I have seen some ladies say it takes a while to settle.

Are your side effects mentioned at all on either of the leaflets in your packs?

What amount of progesterone are you taking? How much is each tablet?

Can I ask if you have noticed any slight breathlessness at this point? X

Hi Tallulah

it's perfectly safe to take it vaginally, loads of us do it this way and it minimises side effects x

Hi Sally

Welcome too! :)

It is really good to hear you managed without hrt.

Do look at the alternative thread and tell us your experience so far! X

Thanks Peri, I will look into that.

Hi Jari, I'm 49, mainly muscle pain and fatigue.
I've looked at the leaflet and it doesn't really describe it, apart from deep vein thrombosis but I didn't have all the symptoms for that and think this is more relating to oestrogen gel.  No breathlessness. I'm taking 200mg of ustrogestan. The hot knee/thigh thing has gone away but I'll keep an eye on this if it comes back I'll try and get a telephone call with her.
Thanks x
