advice on next steps
« on: March 03, 2020, 01:15:56 PM »

Hi everyone,

I'm 37, diagnosed with POF and have been on everel 75mg for approximately 18 months with vagifem every other night.  Due to the supply shortage I've been taking estraderm which I strongly suspect I am not absorbing as well as these patches don't stick on brilliantly.

I'm curled up in VA pain right now waiting for a doctor to ring me back as ibuprofen isn't touching the pain.  It has flared up since sex on Saturday and I have not experienced anything like it before.  I've struggled to sleep the last two nights, had to go home from work and need my husband to pick the kids up from school.  I'm struggling to do the basic things.

Generally, lots of menopause symptoms are having a big impact on the quality of my life, although VA is definitely the worst.  So I need to do something about this........

I'm going to ask for a referral to an NHS menopause clinic.  Does anyone know what the waiting times are like?  I'm thinking Oxford, Birmingham or London would be easiest to get to.
My other option is to pay privately if anyone has any recommendations or ideas as to what to look out for to find the right place?

I'm so grateful for this forum and the wealth of knowledge you all have.

Do you mean that the 'vagifem' is in short supply?  If you have any, get a dose into your vagina ASAP and take some pain relief.  Regularly for 3 days.  Some ladies need 'vagifem' every night and occasionally, two doses at once.

A referral to a specific Menopause Clinic might be useful.  You soudltn' have to pay but sometimes, needs must!  How supportive is your GP?

Hi CKLD,
Sorry I've got plenty of vagifem, its the oestrogen patches that I am having difficulty getting.
I definitely need a referral to a menopause clinic as not getting anywhere with my GP.  So if anyone has any recommendations of clinics, that would be much appreciated.

Get that Vagifem to work ASAP ;-)

Hopefully someone will be along with Clinic advice.

Hi,
Go to this website

https://thebms.org.uk/find-a-menopause-specialist/

You type in your post code and it brings up your nearest clinics registered with the British menopause society.
Hope this helps xxx
