My prolapse was sorted with local estrogens, Vagifem and Ovestin and physio therapy. Surgery really should only be a last resort.

Can I jump on here and ask if HRT helps with pelvic floor strengthening?  I feel like I could end up with a degree of prolapse, and it's all so sudden, things have improved with patches, but wondering if I should have pessaries or cream as well?  Would it make much difference?

KaraShannon, a physiotherapist specialising in women's health and pelvic floor issues would be able to help, and it's always a good idea to use local oestrogen  too.

I've had a hysterectomy due to prolapse and was advised to use both full and topical HRT for the rest of my life in order to keep my pelvic floor strong.

Thanks Joaniepat and Taz2

I've left a message with my doctor to request trying pessaries, message from reception is that she will get back, but she hasn't and I told her of a few problems years ago and she was dismissive then (and problems were even more minor then).

I've waited a while because of the coronavirus crisis but now I'm just thinking I should message again, more direct and tell her what I want because she's not responding to me and this is the third time really.

I'm on Evorel Sequi patches, do either of you know what sort of pessaries they offer?  Or creams?  I want to make a direct request now.

Thanks, sorry to take over the thread, I'll leave it at this.   :)

The pessary is called Vagifem. There are two creams. Ovestin is the one usually prescribed. This is used internally with an applicator and you can also apply a lttle to the vulva. The same goes for the generic Estriol Cream, but it is much weaker than Ovestin so you need to use a lot more so it can be a bit messy when used internally.

I have found testosterone improved my pelvic floor and I no longer have to do the exercises. I haven't had a hysterectomy or prolapse. I did have a problem in peri with repeatedly pulling muscles without much reason. It's improved my muscle tone including pelvic floor. Hrt made no difference to it. Not sure if this is relevant to your situation but possibly worth a try if libido is also poor.

I just want to go to my doctor armed with all info.

Testosterone can be prescribed in the UK, but GPs are often reluctant to unless they are knowledgeable about menopause. You may need a referral to a NHS menopause clinic, or go to one privately.

On the NHS you would be prescribed one of the gels, Testogel or Tostran. These are designed for men but you just use a tiny amount. There is also Androfem, a cream for women, but this is only available privately.

I needed a referral and they would only prescribe it for low libido (mine was zero) even if you really want it for some other reason.
