Supplements for dry, frizzy hair?
« on: February 09, 2020, 10:42:32 AM »

Hi all,

Hope you're well.

i'm post meno now. I came off my HRT slowly over the last three months.

I feel fine, actually - emotionally pretty robust and no massive estrogen dips as I experienced during the last few years. I'm a bit hotter at night, but that's it.

BUT, my curly hair has a delightful frizzy halo now. It's a nightmare. I use a deep stay on conditioner once or twice a week (like a hair mask) and that helps, but day to day it's a mess.

Is there anything I can take internally to improve it? Like flaxseed oil or any supplements?

Thanks all. I realise in the grand scheme of things, this is not a big problem, but I'd like to improve if it I can.

Try Argan oil, apply after washing to wet hair and blowdry.

I use argon oil too. Was advised to put it on to damp rather than wet hair and then put one pump spread all over hands on dry hair each day. It does help, but nothing really helps if any slight dampness comes into contact with my hair. If you find any solutions please let us know as since menopause my hair has gone wild.

I agree, my hair literally grows width ways with humidty but the argan oil tames it. Also use before straightening my hair to keep it sleek.

Sorry, just realised its actually Moroccon oil I use, probably does the same thing. It costs a lot but lasts months.

Hi Noheroicsplease,

I am also off hrt and going natural now. I have changed my diet quite a bit to include plenty or fruit n veg, oats, pulses, ground flaxseeds etc.

Also good supplements. A good multi vit inc D3 ( which helps prevent osteoporosis), vit c and omega 3.
Omega 3 deficiency causes dull lifeless hair.

I stopped using chemicals on my hair about 2 years ago and with all the above, it is in a good shiny state now. It used to be very dry.

Hope this helps! :)

My hair goes flat which ever shampoo I use  :-\

It depends on your genetics to a certain extent.  Also body chemistry may well have an influence as ladies who had have chemotherapy where the hair falls out, often find that when it grows it is totally different in texture and sometimes colour.

R there any hair products in West Indian shops that might help?  We have ethnic stores locally and many sell products for specific hair types.

Try the Shampoo bar from Cornwall Soap Box.  Sorted my hair out when it went very dry in late peri.

Only available online unless you go to their shop in St. Ives.

I use a shampoo that was recommended for african heritage women. It is good and isn't too costly as the big orange bottle lasts me a year! It's called Creme of nature, professional.
