ITCHY SKIN SOLUTIONS - Collagen? Floradix?
« on: January 27, 2020, 02:37:07 PM »

Hi there
I've had the sleeplessness, anxiety, flushes etc but have been able to get through them. However, for the last few weeks I've had intense itching which is driving me mad! I've had blood tests, all ok although borderline low iron. I wondered what people have found to be the best treatments? I've done all the allergy stuff, no perfume, new mattress etc etc so I know it's the menopause. I'm taking cetirizine every morning but not doing a great deal, am also moisturising with some eczema ointment which is about the only thing that doesn't sting like mad. Has anyone found any particular cream to be effective or any supplement to be effective? Collagen? Ive just bought some Floradix and wondered if anyone has used this and had any success as apparently when iron is not at a great level that can also exacerbate itchiness?  Also has anyone tried acuptuncture? Im reluctant to go on HRT so trying to exhaust all other routes first. AAAAGH!!! And thanks in advance for any tips...

Hi!  As oestrogen levels drop the body may become dry: inside and out - skin, deep in the ears, nostrils, vagina, throat .... and muscles may become lax = aches and pains.

For dry skin I use 'Nivea' or 'vaseline' hand cream in a yellow bottle.  There are various ideas as to what is best, it's a person choice I think.

Read our threads on vaginal atrophy.  Make notes  ;)

Hi Stella Jane
Thanks for your reply. So it wasn't a GP who suggested this? Was this some kind of menopause specialist? What were the side effects from the higher dose cetrizine? OTher than extreme tiredness? Did you find this worked really well for you and that once you were back on the maintenance all was fine? Did you use emollients as well, or take any supplements? Again, many thanks for this advice. :-)

Hello there
Thanks for all that info. Yes I had my bloods done last week and no thyroid problem. Esinophil was high and my iron is borderline but other than that all ok. I've had dry eyes and a flare up of eczema under my eyes since September. I can eradicate it with 0.5 hydrocortisone but then it just flares again a few days later. I'm now wondering if I'm soya sensitive as had that last night and it's all flared overnight again. Grrr. I've eliminated all scent from my house and products, new bed, done everything but no joy! Also had lenses changed as it was just after getting new glasses that it flared. Am going to get referral for allergy tests. How do they do it? Did you have some and did they show up food allergies as well as chemical and environmental ones? Nb which fish oil do you take and did it help a bit with the itching?  Thanks so much for your advice. ☺️
