Very interesting that in the UK they actually do blood tests to check estrogen levels.  I asked my GP here in Canada about blood tests for hormones.  She got quite the laugh as she said any woman over the age of 60 has little to no estrogen.  She is pragmatic and smart and as I HATE NEEDLES, I was happy with her response. 😀

They don't in general as the results can be unreliable.  Probably just special cases.

Whatsupwiththis - if you are over 60 and not taking hRT then your oestrogen levels will be low for you but it's not correct to say "no oestrogen" as we continue to produce it all our lives. If taking HRT of course our levels will be higher than this. I agree there is often no point in doing oestrogen tests - probably at any age or stage except under special circumstances eg surgical menopause - and in UK actually NHS GPs wouldn't normally test for them either but in the private sector this is routine (they make more money!).
