Application/measures and symptoms
« on: January 11, 2020, 04:25:51 PM »

Hello everyone. It's been a while since I've posted, hopefully you have some answers/suggestions for me?
I have been taking HRT for almost 2yrs now and im still not sure i know what im doing.  :o
I do see my Gynaecologist and she's lovely! I leave her feeling confident, informed and prepared to follow all instructions she's given me then once the appointment is past and it's months before I see her again my body decides to take another avenue leaving me confused and anxious.
So fed up with these changes! I'm trying hard to embrace what my body has delivered to me since my 50th birthday (54 next month)

Is there anybody out there at my age still bleeding, monthly, (heavily) using, testosterone, estradiol and progesterone!

I was recenyly advised by Gynaecologist to apply estrodiaol all 4 doses at once on upper back behind shoulders and back of arms down to wrists, she says that's the only place for application but I'm reading otherwise! Any suggestions ladies! Also she has told me to take 1, 100mg of progesterone everyday instead of 2=200mg every 14 days throughout my 28day cycle for 12 days.

Is anybody else familiar with what I've described or am I just babbling? :-\

All feedback appreciated. Sorry about the long post.
Just want someone else to be on my level so I know I'm normal. :o

Thanks for reading.

Hey Bertha - yes what she has told you is indeed correct but it sounds like you were using (Utro) on a cycle before this latest visit as in using 200mg for 12 days a month?  If you have moved to "continuous" then it's 100mg everyday then it will take a while for your body to settle down.  The idea of using every day is to balance the oestrogen against the progesterone so you don't bleed.

I use mine (progesterone) on the cycle of 200mg for 12 days as it is my choice.  The only difference is application - you can also put it on your inner thighs - all 4 pumps and rub in!

Thank you ladies, so good to know I'm not in this alone!
Are any of you in your 50s and still bleeding, heavily?

Hello again :)
Is anyone still having flushes after applying Estradiol?

Can anyone tell how much testogel is too much or too little?

With Estradiol you know 1 full pump is a measure, with Testogel you cannot gage. It is still in a pump, but a full measure i know is aimed at men so how do you know what amount of gel to take? :-\

Could a full measure of Testogel be applied and used over a few days balancing out the amount you should take daily, i.e. a full measure over 3 days and so on? :o

Hi Bertha

If you have been taking the Oestrogen on a sequential basis (200mg for 12 days), then that could be why you are still having monthly bleeds.  However, some ladies do still bleed into their late 50s.

If you are still having flushes then you are not getting enough oestrogen.  The Oestrogel should control your flushes.  How long have you been on 4 pumps?

Testogel in  pump pack is more difficult to apply as each pump is more concentrated.  There is  along thread on it on the forum, but I can't remember off the top of my head what each pump contains.  I use Tostran pump pack or Testogel sachets.  I'll have  look and get back to you. x

Hi bertha - if you are bleeding heavily then either your own cycle is kicking in or the progesterone is not sufficient to protect your uterus from the oestrogen you are applying.  As you are 53 then you could still be having a cycle and where you are in menopause depends to some extent on what your cycle and periods were doing in the mponths leading up to your styarting HRT 2 years ago. If your periods were still pretty regular then you may well still be peri but if they were few and far between then you may be post-meno by now. Either way you should not be bleeding heavily. It could also mean you have a fibroid or polyp?

If you are still getting flushes on that dose of oestrogen as Dotty says it sounds like it's not the right dose although the heavy bleeding suggests your lining is building up. You are already seeing a specialist ( private or NHS?) - but i would ask for the heavy bleeding to be investigated as well as possibly some blood tests re oestrogen although these are very inaccurate....

Also if you are bleeding heavily on your current regime you are likely to continue to bleed sporadically when using a conti dose (of 100 mg daily) and especially if you are still peri-menopausal, although the bleeding might be lessened? I would still want it looked at though ( your womb lining). Used vaginally it is more effective at the same dose.

Have you had other tests re cause for the flushes if not oestrogen levels?

Testogel -  definitely do not apply the whole pump at a time! Pity you were given that one as the pumped dose is far too high. You need a tiny petit-pois size dose of T daily. That one is more concentrated than the Testogel sachets that Dotty referred to and which I use. Didn't the gynae tell you how much to use?

Hello ladies, thank you for all your replies. I have not been able to concentrate on myself this last week.

I look after my mother in law who suffers with severe Dementia, it's draining, I'm tired, frustrated, stressed, listless fed up and hot. I had to share that with you sorry; no point sharing with my other half as he is as stressed as i am, it's his mother I'm talking about. We are literally sitting, watching her die before us:'(
I'll move On, I'm sure you don't need to be hearing this!

My Gynae has suggested that if the heavy bleeding continues she will perform a hysteroscopy and pointed out the same possibilities for my symptoms as you lovely women have, (fibroids, polyps, where I was at with my periods prior to taking HRT)
She is also recommending a could type combi version for HRT; somehow that does not appeal to me!
Mt Gynaecologist has also stated that 4 measures of Estradiol is the highest dose allowed, actually stating that maybe I should try to ween myself down to two, however, that won't be possible; I'd be walking around dripping like a wet towel wanting to argue and punch everyone who looks in my general direction!

I am probably overloaded with Testosterone as there is no measuring involved, just guesswork hoping I'm not applying to much or to little :o

Not sleeping, having a glass of red to often now as well.
This menopause lifestyle that's just thrown at us women is detrimental to our health.

I'm tired.
