Chinese lantern should be banned
« on: January 02, 2020, 03:28:01 PM »

German police suspect a mother and her two adult daughters of having caused a deadly zoo fire  :'( by releasing illegal sky lanterns on New Year's Eve.

The blaze killed more than 30 animals, including rare apes and monkeys, in the western city of Krefeld.

Police say they have questioned the three women, local residents who are said to be "extremely sorry".

They allegedly did not realise that the lanterns - bought on the internet - were banned in Germany.

The fire on the night of 31 December gutted the zoo's tropical ape house.

I read about this too, tragic. poor animals, they definitely should be banned from sale
Seen lots of cases where animals have even been killed by rushing into fences etc, also same with fireworks
Anyone selling these things should be prosecuted,
I don't doubt that those people are extremely sorry, but wont undo the damage done or  bring the animasl back

I feel the same.  In the UK many cows have died because they have ingested Chinese lanterns which they are unable to digest  :'(

I would ban fireworks too.

We find helium balloons caught in the hedges or crops and always dispose of them because we have deers and other wildlife round here x

Urban government clueless about rural life. Drop a sweet paper in the street and you get a £50 fine, drop a burning lantern or helium balloon in the countryside that can kill livestock or set you barn alight - that's OK, it doesn't matter there. At least Germany has a ban unlike the UK.

Trouble is, these can be bought over the internet so avoids any Laws anyway.  There was talk about a Law in the UK but it kind of faded out.

Oh! how high do you have to fly in order to clear the roof tops?
