Tablets v gel
« on: December 22, 2019, 09:21:10 AM »

I had been taking indivina 2/5 for 2 years when I found that menopause symptoms were returning (age62) my consultant said we could add another 1mg of estradiol and wrote to my gp, who deals with repeats. Indivina became impossible to source so I asked for the drugs to be prescribed separately and was called in for a review with the GP. He said 2 mg of estradiol was already high and he was not happy to prescribe another 1mg but would give me sandrina gel. So now I'm using 3 mg of sandrina plus a squirt of tostran 5 times a week and having to wait half an hour before I can get dressed. Also I'm having to have monthly prescriptions rather than 6 months as he wouldn't give me more. Is gel really so much safer than tablets?

Hi 3mg of Sandrena gel is a high dose . The equivalent to the tablet you were on would be 1mg of Sandrena gel. X

No they are the same  1mg of sandrina gel contains 1mg of estradiol. My indivina was 2mg of estradiol and I asked for 1 more mg.

Transdermal is safer than oral but if you don't get on with gel you could ask for a patch instead (if you're in the UK make sure it's one you can get hold of). Tostran 5x a week is a high dose, I have one pump every other day. And if you still have a uterus you need progesterone.

Prior to using tostran I was having one sachet of testogel per week which gave 50 mg of testosterone. When the sachets stopped being available the consultant moved me to tostran. 5 pumps deliver 50mg of testosterone.
