40yr old new to all this
« on: December 21, 2019, 08:59:17 PM »

So I turned 40 in April I suffer with EUPD and have had an episode that's lasted a while. Over the last few weeks iv noticed iv been having hot flushes that comes in waves not sleeping at night waking daily between 3am and 4 10am in a pool of water all windows open however still not feeling the cold. That's not like me I always feel the cold. I brake down in tears randomly I have heart palpitations that feel like they could turn onto panic attacks. I still have healthy period and my moods are more temperamental than normal going fro. 0 _ 60 in a matter of seconds and then I struggle to get out of the mood . Now all these symptoms I get with EUPD however it feels different.  I suffer anxiety however this is more of a heart palpitation. I'm forgetful to the point of not remembering iv seen or done something it's like a fog that clouds my mind.
Because of my EUPD I'm struggling with how to cope with the change please could someone help and advise me as I'm struggling with this process.
My skin has dried out and iv aged in the last year it's making me more depressed than normal please help I'm struggling

Hello E. K and welcome to the forum.

Your symptoms sound like the hormonal changes that we experience at the menopause. At 40 you are very young to be going through this and need expert help from your doctor. I'm afraid I don't know what you mean by EUPD so perhaps you would like to explain this more fully.

I am sure some more ladies will be along to advise you so don't despair, you are not alone and help is at hand.

Take care.

K.

I would suggest a trip to the doc to see if hrt would be appropriate. Hot flushes are a standard meno symptom. Have your periods changed at all? Longer or shorter interval between them? Peri is hard enough without your existing problems. Insomnia, mood swings etc etc can all be meno symptoms. Perhaps have look at the 'advice for husbands' pinned post and see if you can work out which of your symptoms are meno rather than eupp. I hope you can find a way forward.

I'm glad you're in a better place now. It isn't always about flow, if you've always had a regular 28 day cycle and you find this gets shorter, longer or irregular it's an indication you're in peri menopause. Maybe write in on the calendar so you can look back and check? It makes it more difficult that many of your usual symptoms are also meno ones so perhaps harder to work out the cause.

Hi EK, sorry to hear you are going through all this. As suggested by others I would go to your GP, however prior to that have a read across the forum and threads to educate yourself (knowledge is power) some GP's are fantastic however others especially if you have already exisiting issues are hopeless. Do some research and see if there is a local menopause group you could attend, I found one which was a great support. Keep a diary of your symptoms, it is good to reflect on yourself and to share with medical professionals, also if you start HRT it is good to see whether there has been an improvement or not. The other thing to think about is whether there are any lifestyle changes you could make that might help alleviate some symptoms, diet, exercise etc.
I will be 42 before the month is out and had years (3+) of symptoms before I was diagnosed as peri menopause and started on HRT, I haven't looked back quality of life and at your age if it is peri the protective factors of heart and bone health meant for me HRT was a no brainer. I wish I knew then what I know now though as I was discounted because blood results were normal (if you have a look on the site you will see they are unreliable and should not be used as a diagnostic tool but symptoms should be what is assessed). I ended up with referrals to other specialists as I have thyroid problems and they were relating it to that although I had been stable for a decade and the symptoms didn't match, in my opinion.
Wish you all the best E.k, let us know how you get on. x
