Is the HRT crisis over?
« on: December 07, 2019, 11:45:05 AM »

Hi, managed to get my Estradot 50mcg patches yesterday at last after waiting several months. Am hoping this means that the problems have been solved and things are getting back to normal for everyone now. Yippee!

That's great hot mama, I managed to get half my prescription of six boxes of Estradot 100 mcg a week ago, but when I went back for other three boxes a few days later they were out of stock again. I'm not holding my breath, but at least we have some to be going on with.

The problem is being exacerbated by GPs allowing individuals to stockpile by giving them massive prescriptions. Even before the shortage I was never allowed more than 3 boxes of Estradot at a time and have not been able to get a single box since about April last year, whereas a friend of mine was given a year's supply.

Sammiejane
I have been on Estradot and Testogel for ages and have no hair shedding

Clio
 I don't need progesterone.

I agree with your point, and only noticed the size of the prescription after I'd left the surgery. I knew I'd be lucky to get one box by then (late August) let alone six.

Yes absolutely - part of this is an artificial shortage! I mean if there was only just enough to keep up with normal demand then of course it is going to lead to shortages if women are given 6 months or more. I am horrified at the thought of anyone being given a year's supply or even 6 months  :o. GPs should really not be permitted to do this unless under exceptional circumstances! In our practice I was generously allowed to have 2 month's worth ( instead of the 1 month even though my prescription is for 3 months) - and I was grateful for this. In the past with Estradot (and nothing to do with the current shortages - I'm talking about before that) - I have been given 1 month at a time and often been down to the last week - but always managed to get supplies (and I don't live in a town so have to make a journey....).

As well as the govt giving an edict to pharm wholesalers to stop re-selling of HRT they should also have said no more than 3 months per woman to GPs  >:( . No wonder I can't get hold of any!

Clio, hot mama - lucky you! Joaniepat - you hit the jackpot  ;D

Hurdity, I use to be given 6 months worth of everol sequi patches because I get charged a double prescription. Its costing me a fortune in trying different types to find one that suits.  Clio

I used to be prescribed 3 months worth of patches + 3 months worth of Utrogestan and that cost 2x prescriptions which I felt was fair enough.
This month I got a measly one month's supply of utrogestan for £9! Prescriptions are costing me a fortune!
