TIA mini stroke

On Sunday I had a mini stroke. The stroke specialist said it is up to me to decide if I continue with hrt or not. I'm on a low dose oestrogen patch 37.5mcg and mirena coil.
I have asked my gyneacologist for advise and he said to remove the patch until he has time to speak with colleagues and to get my full report from the stroke unit.
My concern now is that I still have the mirena in so I'm hoping my anxiety isn't going to go through the roof. Also if I'm off the patch for a few weeks is it not more dangerous to start on it again (If he says it's safe) as I'm 61.

Thank you, It has been a very frightening experience. I have been under a lot of stress lately and I'm more inclined to blame it on that then hrt.

According to Dr Newson we should not just stop HRT as we are more at risk of stroke & heart attack within the 1st year as it's a shock to the body.

My Gynae also says the same never go cold turkey as they say.

Stress can do all sorts to the body I wish you well.

Thank you for that info. I have some 25mcg patches so have put one on. Better than none at all I think.

Hiya ann58.  Sorry to hear that happened to you.
Others are more knowledgeable than me around HRT. But I just wanted to send love i can guess how frightened you were as on Friday i had to take my mum to a and e with a TIA. I've never seen her so scared. I'm taking her to the TIA clinic on Friday . Did they start you on any blood thinners?

These things can sometimes be a one off. I wish you well and hope you soon get  a clearer picture on the HRT situation xxx

Hi Ann58:  TIA's, as you know, is a warning sign. From my understanding, at your age it is not unusual to suffer from them.  My Dr. has refused systemic HRT for that specific reason (I'm 68) but who knows if HRT exacerbates health issues.  I'm on BP medication and just this week there has been a ton of negativity about ALL BP meds.  It's a crap shoot at best.

Posted before I finished typing....brain ya know, my brother has had 2 TIA's and he is doing just fine.  Good luck Ann58 and I'm sure you will have many more years to enjoy life.

I'm sorry that your Mum had had to go through this too. I was given Atorvastatin 80mg and Clopidogral 75mg

I'm pleased to hear your brother is doing fine.
I know they won't prescribe hrt after a certain age but they say if you are prescribed it before age 60 it's ok to continue unless something like this (TIA) happens.

My mum was given the statins too. Apparently they give it whether you have high cholesterol or not after TIA.  shes already on a blood thinner for AF.

So  it sounds as though you've been given the same meds. A statin and a blood thinner..

This with mum comes on the heels of my having a conversation literally the day before with gynae about HRT and the fact that she says i am a pretty high risk for this particularly as I get migraine on HRT. . I was told mirena and transdermal carry a  lower risk than oral HRT.. and so that's what I've been offered.

 So you've been on the lower of the risk factors hrt wise according to what my gynae said to me   butI guess it has to be reassed once an episode like this happens.

Yes my gyneacologist had given me that combination because it has the lowest risk of any of the risk factors.
