Premature bleeding on Utrogestan
« on: October 11, 2019, 08:53:57 AM »

Morning, I am hoping someone can shed light on this problem I am having; perhaps Hurdity will know?
I've found the perfect combination - Estrodot 50 and Utrogestan 100 vaginally. I feel normal for the first time in a good while. The cloying mists have lifted and I no longer want to wrestle folk to the floor; all is good. However, I'm bleeding after 7 - 9 days.

I've had a scan and the results are ‘normal' - thicker than normal but apparently HRT thickens the walls.

The question is - does this premature bleeding sound unusual?

Thank you.

Hi foldie - when did you have the scan - before the bleeding or as soon as the bleeding started?

How you respond to starting hRT depends on a lot of things - eg how far into or post menopause you are, whether you have been using HRT, if so which type and how long for, whether you have any womb abnormailites eg fibroids or polyps. Some of these factors will influence how thick the lining was when you started HRT and then whether and how much bleeding you will get and when. ie how long is a piece of string. Also to some extent how old you are....

As a rule of thumb - some bleeding can be expected in the first 3-6 months of continuous combined HRT but any bleeding beyond that time or any worrying bleeds before that should be reported and investigated.

What was the thickness of you rlining? Eventually continuous combined HRT like you are taking should thin the lining down and then prevent it from thickening further - provided the balance is right for you and no issues with womb.

Pleased to hear it is suiting you otherwise!

Dear Hurdity,

tnk you for your reply. To answer the question regarding the scan - it was 1 week after my period.

I went to see a menopause specialist (rare indeed) and she was concerned by the vaginal route and the bleeding after 7 days (I have to stop inserting the Utrogestan due to the bleed - maybe I should have persevered for the full 12 days rather than stopping inserting after 7?).  She suggested taking them orally instead to ensure the recommended dose was applied.

As I get on so we'll with this method, I'm reluctant to take them orally. However, there's been another development. My periods have reduced from 5 days to 2, so maybe this method is not thinning the lining?

Help. It's all so complicated.
