Livial problems
« on: August 25, 2019, 02:17:52 PM »

Hi all , I'm 52 and going through the menopause. About a year ago I was prescribed Elleste duet. I've since been diagnosed with liver problems due to a genetic condition I have. My specialist put me on livial due to my dodgy liver. I've been taking it for 3 months now and its certainly helped relieve my symptoms. I know it recommends not taking it unless you haven't had a period for 12 months. Even though I have had periods it was still prescribed. The 1st month I took it I was fine but now I'm having a period every 2 weeks which is driving me nuts. Has anyone had similar and if so did it settle down???? Dont know whether to continue or not.

I have been on livial for years, then off it and now on it again,i have never had problems like this,i didn't know livial was any different to any other tablet HRT as it still goes through the liver
I have Haemochromatosis, which can cause liver problems, but never been told livial is any better than any other except it is quite weak
Recently though it seems to make me very tired, and going to see if i can have something else, as i am having hair loss, not as far as i know through livial, but i am now wondering as still having hair loss if it is contributing to it
I would see your Dr again.
You could put a search in and see if it does cause bleeding at first,
I am sure i have read that it can, but doesn't last

My Gp referred me to a specialist who said it was ok to take livial with cirrhosis caused by my Haemochromatosis. I have read it can cause bleeding if taken less than 12 months after your last period. However it doesnt state how often they happen or for how long it will continue.  The only good side is I haven't needed any venesctions for a while as fortnightly bleeding seems to be keeping my ferritin level low. I was wondering if anyone else had had similar issues .I'm close to giving up on it.

It is interesting that you have HH too, although my sons suffer badly with it,i don't and rarely need venesections, one specialist has even questioned if i have it
My Dr gave me patches not long ago as he said they don't go through the liver
I am sure i have read that livial can cause bleeding at first sometimes, as can some other HRTs, all i can suggest as before is to put livial in the sarch box on here,i know it is in thee as i searched it in the pastor maybe just google it

WennyWizard, i have looked through the livial searches, and found at least 2 which mentions bleeding, so i think it is fairly normal at the start for some ladies,so i wouldn't worry too much ,but always worth contacting Dr if still worried or it carries on

I think I will give it another month and if theres no improvement I will ask for something else. Fortnightly bleeding is getting me down. I think 4 months is long enough .

Yes livial is supposed to be for post meno pause, but i'm sure i was on it before periods stopped the first time,so long ago i can't really remember
I agree see your Dr, every 2 weeks is too much
Are you well otherwise  in general?
