Michellelouise - don't listen to friends unless they are qualified and experienced gynaecologists who specialise in menopausal problems.
As you have had a hysterectomy, you do not need to come off Oestrogel unless you develop a health issue that results in you needing to stop HRT. The research shows that hysterectomised women who use oestrogen are less likely to develop breast cancer. Using Oestrogel will help to prevent osteoporosis, urogenital atrophy, heart disease and even reduce your chance of bowel cancer - so using oestrogen is not just about relieving menopause symptoms. It might be wise to increase your dose to 2 pumps per day to get the full benefit for your bone health.
If I were you, I'd keep using the Oestrogel for as long as possible especially if it is giving you quality of life - one year will not be enough to get the long term benefits.
