Magnesium, B vitamins - aaaaarrrrggg!!
« on: August 04, 2019, 05:53:18 PM »

I know Magnesium, in particular, has been mentioned before but a search hasn't helped me much - sorry!

Last night while watching TV I had a horrible sensation like restless legs all over my body. It lasted about 2-3 hours. Could it be dehydration? I know I don't drink enough (go to the loo once during the night, if I'm lucky, again when I get up, then once more after my breakfast and that can be it till tea time, then once more at bedtime) 6 weeks ago at a jumble sale thingey I was helping at, I had double vision after tea time and someone asked me when had I last had some water? I'm on a new opioid pain killer for my disc problem and I think maybe that maybe causing it? I also took Menopace for years up until 4 months ago and now I only take a supplement with mainly biotin, folic acid, B vitamins. So I havn't had any magnesium, calcium or Vit D since April. I was reading about magnesium being so valuable and have ordered some oil spray. I have just walked to the kitchen and back and my hips and legs are tired. Do you think the mag. oil will be a start to feeling better? Thanks.

My restless leg syndrome was cured by eating lots of bananas - 2-3 small ones daily.  They contain potassium.  I ate several daily for 5 years without any symptoms at all.

If the sensation begin now I take a 'nurofen' over-night - I can feel the legs drawing in the day but the problem never starts until I'm in bed - then begin regular bananas but I don't like them too ripe or green  :-\  :-X

As oestrogen levels drop muscles may become lax = aches and pains.  Have you tried pain relief in the short term?

I take celecoxib every 12 hours for my disc problem and can't take any other anti-inflammatories. The bananas sound a good idea, thanks. I also wondered if the small (1/2 a measure) G+T I had could have caused it and am staying on cranberry juice tonight! I read that pomegranate juice is good too so will buy some tomorrow. I must admit I'm nervous about sitting down tonight but time will tell. At least it's been gone by bedtime (had RL syndrome when older locum GP put me on an older AD and that was all night, every night for weeks)

For years I slept with legs elevated, up the wall or on thick blankets under the mattress.  Well, I say slept  ;D - when I eventually dropped off my legs would fall  :o onto DH  ::).

Bananas can be presented in several ways, even with cream ;-).  Usually I eat two small ones when symptoms are annoying ..... some find that Magnesium helps symptoms.  I don't think there is a known cause.  I've suffered since a child, found about bananas when I started eating every 3 hours ......... to keep blood sugar levels even.  Hey Presto!

I doubt a G&T would hurt.  Years ago tonic had ? X ? in it but I believe it's been withdrawn, it was suggested for cramp and of course, the X has slipped my mind  ???.  Quinniene?

But the malaria parasites are mostly resistant to quinine now so not as useful as it used to be...  :o

Well, I definitely think the strange sensation all over my body (which is worse on my hands - like restless legs and I feel compelled to clench my fists repeatedly, and that helps) must be dehydration. I have upped my magnesium uptake and was ok Mon, Tues and Wed till night time then it started. I realised I had only had a piddle once all day and that I had drunk very little in the humid conditions.

Birdy - I'm glad I'm not in your bed  :spin:!! Thanks for that information, I will have a look at adrenal cocktail.

It is jaycee - 2 small bananas daily cured my restless legs completely.  By chance  :o  :-*

I already ate many foods with potassium in as well as avoiding others .......... I took magnesium 4 a while to stop a cough reflex, it certainly worked but worked on my bowels too  :D

;D. so I found .......... OK as I was at home.  It certainly works to ease the cough reflex ......... 3 high dose capsules for a day.  Job done.  Ought to try it for a persistent cough but we are busy out and about so I daren't  :D
