Hello
« on: August 05, 2019, 09:55:36 PM »

 Hello lovelies,

I've just come back after being away from  menopausematters for a long time, in fact it's been so long I had forgotten my password, so had to make a new account.

The last time I was here I was having the implant every 6 months at the menopause clinic, because they stopped making the only hrt method that worked for me, which was a nasal spray.
The implant of estrogen and testosterone  was fantastic, but then they stopped making that, due to cost I was told, I was discharged from the menopause clinic and told to go back to my gp to find a suitable alternative.

Unfortunately there has been no suitable alternative, and I'm back to trying different tablets, none of which stop the horrendous sweats I have both day and night.
I am so low and depressed because I have suffered for years and years with the horrible symptoms, but feel because of my age now being 60 nobody really cares, but I still have to work and function like I did 20 years ago when I had my hysterectomy,  but don't know what to do.

Am I too old to ask to be referred back to the menopause clinic?  I don't even know if there is such a clinic anymore.

I would be extremely grateful for any help or advice anyone can give.

Never too young/old to discuss at a meno. clinic!

Make a list of your symptoms and which you would like to ease first?
Have a look-see for Clinics within travelling distance, try to avoid Gynaes because they don't know much more than GPs  ::)

Get referred back to the meno clinic. I started going to one in my late sixties. I was discharged the other day as my current treatment is OK, but told to get referred back if there are any problems. I will be 70 next month.

I am interested to know what they do at a Meno Clinic that the Doctors cant do?  Is it just that they have time to listen and are more interested in your meno journey.  If you require HRT do they issue it or are you referred back to GP. :)

GPs in general don't have enough knowledge regarding menopause.  At a Clinic there should be health professionals who have been on Courses etc. in order to be more aware.

Maybe take a list of symptoms etc. to the appt.?  I believe that who ever you see will write to the GP with a treatment regime, you could ring the Clinic and ask?

I would say the meno clinics have more time and knowledge as they seem to specialise in menopause matters 😊

When I went to a clinic years ago, it was for the implant every 6 months, I'm not sure if gp''s can do that or not.

Anyway the update of my gp appointment today, he has referred me as I asked, but not to the hospital I attended before, it's to a local clinic, I had no idea was even open anymore, I thought he had misunderstood when I read on the form, so I rang and asked the receptionist, apparently they send you to the place that comes up on their system with an appointment.
Fingers crossed that I get someone who knows what they're doing 😊

Yeah, me too! I asked to see the ‘meno nurse' at my surgery. She didn't seem to know much and was incredibly patronising. Told me an oestrogen level of less than 54 was good for post meno me, on HRT. She was supposed to refer me to the meno clinic, then didn't. It was her suggestion. Honestly, I feel like half the reason this meno crap is so tough is because we have to fight all the time for the ‘experts' to help us.
You are so right Bird,  everything has been a fight, and that's the reason I let things go for so long, I get tired of fighting.. but now I'm tired of suffering 😰
I'm not going to be fobbed off anymore xx
