Hello. Thank you for having me. I've just started with symptoms & have been told I can't have HRT due to blood clots. Really disappointed. Need advice on alternative medicine.

I think that it really does depend on how the HRT is delivered!

Hopefully someone will be along with advice.  Meantime, maybe put 'HRT + Clots' into the search box here to see if anything positive pops up?

Hiya leeks and welcome to the forum.im sure someone will be along to offer advice on alternative therapies.
I would just mention though, that although I havent had a blood clot I am at high risk so was told it would not be a good idea to take the HRT pill but that I can take patches and gel as the risk is a lot lower. Did your doc discuss this with you.?

There is no risk of clotting with transdermal oestrogen as it goes straight into the bloodstream. There's a slight risk with oral as it metabolises through the liver which produces clotting factors. Micronised progesterone is not associated with risk of clotting, unlike some of the older progestogens.

If the information you were given came from a GP or other non-specialist, ask for a referral to a menopause clinic. Most GPS are behind the times when it comes to HRT.

Welcome keekz! 🙂

How bad are your symptoms?

Maybe start by making a note of your typical diet, supplements and weekly excercise. Then see if you can adapt this in order to keep your hormones as balanced as possible, while you go through this phase. X

Hi keeks. Have you had blood clots in the past or is it a family history of them? I have family history but I was given a clotting screen which showed I hadn't inherited the most common problematic clotting factors.
