Hi jessiew, I didn't want the mirena either. I'm on my second regime of HRT, oestrogen patch & oral progesterone (daily). The GP I have been seeing latterly is honest & admits menopause is not his speciality, I continue to go to him as he listens & genuinely seems to care which I need after 3 yrs of seeing different specialists all to come back to diagnosis of peri that I had suspected myself at the start!! Anyway although this GP is not up on menopause treatments each time I have been to him he has with my knowledge emailed the local gyae/meno specialist for advice & to ask if what I am requesting is correct (based on my reading here & elsewhere). Always quick in getting a response and so far this current HRT is working for me (sleep/insomnia much improved). I agree with what CLKD has suggested also see if there are any menopause groups or cafe's locally, I attended a group and it was amazing (I'm in Scotland). If you look on the rockmymenopause website they have a good diary you can print of (I used it), I find it gives you a picture of what your symptoms are like, if there is a pattern (sometimes there isn't) & it is helpful to discuss with GP/nurse the impact on you etc. Also look at your general lifestyle is there anything you could do yourself to improve your symptoms, diet, weight loss, exercise, supplements etc as I believe it is not just one thing that will work, it takes some tweeks here and there! x
