Last summer when it was hot here for a few days my oestrodose was runnier and during that time I got a return of my symptoms.
I definitely prefer the Estrogel, will try to get it again.

Makes sense and I've got to say definitely feeling better. Still spotting quite badly which I hadn't been doing for a while and still feel a bit crampy but mood okay. I'm really rubbing it in well to inner thighs or concentrated shoulder area to the point where it feels almost dry. Hopefully that's the trick! If it is and I'm absorbing well oestrodose will be a good substitute when Amy manufacturing problems occur x

Maybe I'm getting this wrong but I thought the drying time was critical to ensuring that the oestrogen is absorbed. I spread oestrogel on my shoulders and thighs and allow 10 minutes drying time. The thick/thinness of the spread was trial and error initially but second nature now.

I was under the impression that the oestrogen cannot be absorbed further once the carrier gel has dried.

Yes that's right - I have read that if it dries too quickly oestrogen can no longer be absorbed - which stands to reason really. Yes I think it is trial and error to get the right method and area of spreading until you get to what's best for you and then if the dose is still insufficient, to increase. Also as long as you are consistent then you will be giving yourself approx the same dose?

I think rubbing it in is different from just allowing it to dry. As mentioned elsewhere I have just started Sandrena which states it should be rubbed in (different from the  more detailed prescribing info which just says to apply it). The consistency is quite sticky and more like a slave. As it rubs in the gel disappears but I am assuming it is being absrobed into the upper layers of the skin and not drying through evaporation. Once this has done the surface of the skin still feels sticky and it is this that takes a while to dry. I don't know about oestrogel but maybe rubbing it in aids initial absorption as with Sandrena, rather than allowing rapid evaporation of the alcohol in the gel?

I've been rubbing the oestrodose in really well until it dries and I've noticed a marked difference in how I'm feeling with the same dose; much better mood wise, spotting settled now, sleeping well again but feeling more tired than have been which may be tied into how stupid busy I am at work at the moment.
Someone posted some updated recommendations for applying gels on here recently, but I can't remember the thread! It definitely said to rub in well until gel dried and that you could apply it to other areas than just outer arms and inner thighs.
I'm going to see if I can find it. Maybe they've realised that this method actually aids absorption better as it seems to be working for me.
My only ongoing moan about the Mirena/oestrogel combi is that I'm back to losing more hair than on any other hrt I've tried and the femoston conti actually made my hair grow and look brilliant! But then I'm learning that I can't have it all so I'll settle for this as I'm feeling better than I have in a long while 😊 (hope to god I haven't just jinxed myself!) 😉 x

Hi StellaJane, the femoston definately made my hair so much better. My hairdresser commented how much thicker it seemed and how quickly it grew! Definitely a marked difference. I can't believe how much I'm shedding daily now. It feels so much thinner and dryer too but I'm not bald so fingers crossed it'll stop eventually.
Someone else in another thread stated that femoston was known as the “hair friendly” progesterone!
I was actually okay on the norethisterone and the only reason I stopped the patches was due to needing more oestrogen. My meno specialist didn't seem to be happy with me using an additional patch to up the oestrogen. The reason I stopped the femoston was due to side effects of progesterone which counteracted the positive benefits of it ie insomnia, constipation, +++ urine etc. Just became unbearable unfortunately or I would've persevered.
I've not tried utrogestan, seems to suit a lot of women though. I'll persevere for now on Mirena and oestrogel hopeful all side effects will settle eventually and I read recently about a magnesium hair spray for hair loss so may try that as it's certsinky helping with my sleep! X

Sammiejane i definitely did lose hair using Estrogel last year. As soon as I stopped using it and changed to patches it stopped . Ive been adding 1 pump lately as well as the patches and its starting to fall out again. Not to the degree it was, but I was using 3 pumps then.

Allie 007

I believe mine is the estrogel cause the lightest touch and hairs all over floor in washing up bowl attached to washing etc I mean I know u can shed a bit as the estrogen builds up in the body till it settles but I've been on it 6 months and to be honest besides hairloss it's makes my mood horrible very depressed aniexty emotional up and down all the time , weight gain I'd had lost 1stone throughout 4 yrs since my ovaries removed and hysterectomy , then 6 months on estrogel and gone up 11lb no change to diet , I'm bloated everywhere boobs lumpy and sore heavy my bowel habits changed .
Can I ask what patch you are on ?
