Meno, also have Endo & fibro. HRT please help!!
« on: June 12, 2019, 11:16:23 PM »

Please Help.

I had a total hyst 5 years ago due to Endo. I have never found an HRT that suits me. I have ongoing pain on the right side where my ovary was (had 5 surgeries, adhesions, dermoid costs etc).

I have a strep b thing going on down there which I can't get rid of either (had swabs done and nothing else showed up) and horrible facial hair that I didn't have before the hysterectomy

I have tried gel, patches and Livial and nothing suits me. I can't tell which of my symptoms are from menopause and which are from Endo and fibro, I am a mess! Have also now been diagnosed with CFS.

I don't know where to turn. If I ask for a referral to the local meno clinic will they just tell me to try a different HRT? I'm not sure what they can offer that a GP can't. I considered going private but I don't know where to start. I am mostly stuck in bed all of the time and I'm sick of it.

In the last 12 months I have tried 4 different HRTs and ended up back on Livial, this seems to suit me better but I still get hot flushes and anxiety with it but if I try a patch which is stronger I'm really emotional, shouty and upset all the time (DD is a teen which doesn't help).

My GP can be great and will refer if I need it but really has no idea what else he can do.

Does anyone have any advice at all?? Has anyone been to the meno clinic at Birmingham Women's ???
Do I need testosterone??

Thanks

Hello Eggcustard,  :welcomemm:
I would definitely ask for a referral to a menopause clinic, as you seem to have a lot going on. GPs, even if helpful, are rarely menopause specialists and so are not qualified to deal with all meno issues. I can't help with a specialist in your area, but I'm sure someone here will know.

Hi Eggcustard

 :welcomemm: from me too.

Sorry to hear about all your health problems. I agree with joaniepat to get a referral to a menopause clinic.

The doctors who have diagnosed you with fibromyalgia and CFS are doing you no favours. It may well be that your symptoms of these syndromes are due to hormone deficiency partly as a result of your surgical menopause.  There have been other women on here who have been "diagnosed" with these conditions - but that I mean they had all the symptoms of the syndromes, but they actually were due to hormones, and hormone replacement cured them. So to answer your question you probably need testosterone as well as oestrogen replacement. Because you have had severe endometriosis then you have to take a progestogen to prevfent any further build -up - do you know if you have any residual deposits outside the womb. The specialist may suggest a Mirena coil and then you can add oestrogen and hopefully when your oestrogen levels are up, add some testosterone.

Please please take this further because those fatigue/pain conditions are a dumping ground - the equivalent of a doc wringing their hands and saying well we don't know what's wrong with you but here is a convenient label now go away and look after yourself there's nothing we can do!!!

The other thing is thyroid function - also causes fibrolmyalgia/CFS/ME - have you had any such testing? Make sure you ask for your actual results to make sure you are not borderline. However in your case it is most likely surgical menopause causing your symptoms.

I didn't think Livial was necessarily recommended for those who have endometriosis but clearly it is not sufficient to alleviate your symptoms anyway.

I hope you have success with being referred - in the meantime do a lot of reading and find out as much as you can - there is a lot of info on the main website here at MM - and so that you know what to ask for when you actually get an appointment. Also write down as much as you can beforehand - whast you have tried and how it made you feel...

Thanks for the replies.

I'm going to the meno clinic ASAP. Now found out I may have gall stones which could be from the HRT and the weight gain while on the patch (really couldn't stop eating sugar and fatty foods while on it).

But that's for another thread!!

I answered your other thread - hadn't seen this one don't know why.

It's OK to keep all your topics together ;-)

Hello

There is an excellent menopause clinic not far from you who've helped me tremendously when I was at my wits end. Not sure I can say who on the forum but please DM me if you would like the details.
