As oestrogen levels drop muscles may become lax = hiatus hernia which encourages heartburn etc..

It hadn't occurred to me that stomach issues may be mainly due to the menopause. I did wondered whether I was having  side effects of HRT, but my husband reminded me that I had issues before I started taking HRT so that can't be the only reason! At the specialist menopause clinic the dr explained to me that low oestrogen was probably the cause of my problems and that I may need to take more that the evorel 50. He also advised to change patches after 3 days not twice a week as he said that really they are only designed for a 3 day release. I now do 3 and a half days each to try and even it out and to save myself from getting in a muddle!

It is a minefield. I certainly seem to feel much better on the oestrogen part of the month than the combined.

Meh

First day back on the HRT tablets and woke at 2.30am with a filthy head :( 2 paracetamol have taken it down to a dullish discomfort. Been listening to the birds and watching it get light. I do love this time of the day (and of the year). Not going to panic about one headache, which is probably coincidental.

I was on omeprazole for about a year but still had to take gaviscon at night so I stopped it. It does give me gyp if I leave it too long between meals and I have to be a bit careful what I eat. Sorry to hear you are having a rough week @Foxylady.

Hope you are all sleeping soundly :)

Hope the headache has cleared Mogster71. I had been on omeprazole for a few years but was changed to Ranitadine as they (Immunology/Endocrinology) initially thought my symptoms might be related to the Omeprazole (not).

Hello Foxy

Well it did....but then it came back. 2 more ibuprofen down the hatch, but finding that less effective than the paracetamol. I "think" it might be connected to my neck as my palms are buzzing and ****ling like heck....so I'm going to speak to my osteopath and see if he can fit me in early next week.

This is what I hate about the PM, wondering whether you genuinely have something medically amiss which needs treating or if you could only get to some stability with your blasted hormones, things will be better all round!

I have heard of ranitadine but not tried it, hope it starts to work again for you after this weeks' blip :)

Ibuprofen always worked better for me, I never got any relief with Paracetamol, but everyone is different. I've suffered from migraines since childhood, on propranalol (prophylactically) and take sumatriptan as soon as I feel one coming on (if I delay it doesn't work). So far migraines have been stable, one a month (week of period) since I started HRT (this was a concern as I know with some it can cause headaches/migraines). Hope osteopath helps!!

Ibprofen works better for me too, though I try to avoid it when my stomachs bad as I think it may make it worse.

I know what you mean about wondering whether a symptom is medically related or due to hormones. I'm never sure if a symptom is "genuine" or whether it is hormones / anxiety related.

I was prescribed pepermnt capsules which made me feel worse, lots of minty burping! and then omeprazole, but increased HRT which made my stomach much better so haven't tried the omeprazole. How did you find it?

Hope the headaches better and you both feel well

shropshirelass I originally took peppermint capsules prescribed by GP (IBS) stopped taking them when I started taking probiotics as I feel they generally keep my symptoms under control (I remember the minty burping!! ;D). I'm increasing my HRT this week so hoping the reflux 'blip' will improve.
