Mirena coil versus full HRT
« on: May 17, 2019, 10:23:11 AM »

I'm 53, post-menopausal (99% sure?), and currently have a mirena coil fitted. I'm also on Elleste Solo 1mg for Oestrogen.

My coil is coming to the end of its' useful life and I don't know whether to replace it or go on a Conti regime?

My worst peri symptoms were heavy bleeding and insomnia, so whatever I do next, it has to be good with sleep issues as I can't return to being that insomniac monster again!

Advice greatly appreciated xx

If you have found the Mirena OK, then I'd go for another one.  Mirena with separate oestrogen as patch or gel is often the best HRT regime as there is less likely to be problematic bleeding. Any other form of progesterone taken orally or even vaginally can sometimes give more side effects. The lower consistent dose of progesterone delivered by the Mirena can often give better sleep - I certainly slept better when I had one. DG x

I agree with DG if the Mirena suits you I would stick with it.
