FSH and Serum oestrodiol levels
« on: May 05, 2019, 10:53:04 AM »

Hello All

Are there any clever ladies who could help with views on the following please?

I am having constant bleeding with the two new coils I've have had fitted (just swapped one which was 10 months old and had a new one inserted higher up).  I am using it for progesterone purposes as have patches (Evorel 100mcg and 3 pumps of gel for Oestrogen - yep I'm on a massive dose).  For 17 years I had no bleeding with the Mirena coil but this was prior to menopause.  I am now post menopause.  I have just had some blood readings done to see if my oestrogen is now correct and they are as follows:-
 FSH 8.1 iu/L
 Serum Oestrodial level 2552 pmol/L
There is a message on my medical website that says I need to see my doctor about the 2nd reading but it's not urgent apparently.  Does anyone know if the 2nd reading could be related to my daily bleeding?  I'm just interested.  I do have fibroids but they have not changed much and I have had the mirena before with these, which worked well.  I am wondering if an ablation will be the only answer now as the coil can be used after this successfully and I really do need to stop daily bleeding after almost a year now (albeit light).  Or maybe I still need to adjust my oestrogen??  Oh I love this time of life.  NOT. ;D

Thanks for ANYONE who may have any ideas.  Obviously I will make a doc appointment but sometimes it's weeks before I can get one.  Any views would be great.

Best wishes

Oh boy!!! your oestrogen reading is very, very high and would definitely cause you to bleed.
I believe optimal levels of oestrogen are usually between 300 - 600pmol/L when using HRT so you are around 4 times over this level!!!!!
That level of oestrogen would feed your fibroid and cause your womb lining to build up - thereby causing the bleeding. I'm sure they will advice you to lower your oestrogen use.
I would definitely try reducing your gel use at the very least.  A 100mg patch is very high in the first place. I bet the bleeding would reduce and hopefully stop if you were just using the patch.

Hi Dancing Girl

Thank you so much for this.  Why oh why is it so hard to sort all these things out?  I'm going to phone my specialist now.
